Carlos Gomez signed with the Mets on July 22 2002 as a 16 year old.

Gomez at this time is a lot of projection a guy with a high ceiling. Right now hes a 21 year old who was rushed to the majors way before he was ready, basically because he is fast and can play defense.

Carlos Gomez started to jump on radars in 2005 where he hit .275 with 8 homeruns 48 RBI 13 doubles and 64 SB at age 19 in Hagerstown (A)

 

In 2006 The Mets pushed Gomez to AA skipping A+ completely, and at first it didn't look good early on. Carlos Gomez had a horrible first half which included an April where he hit .205, a May where he hit .219 and a June in which he hit .250. But towards the end of June Gomez hit a hot streak as he did a 360 in July hitting .406 and an August where he hit .294. Gomez ended the year hitting a .281 with 41 SB but more impressively his numbers in the clutch.

 

As Hit .421 (40-95) with men in scoring position, hit .341 (15-44) with runners in scoring position and two outs and was 56-171 (.327) with runners on base.

Gomez during the year Had 34 multiple-hit games on the year.

 

Gomez was ranked by Baseball America as the 60th best prospect in baseball pre-season saying

"Career-high .773 OPS last year shows he's only scratching the surface of his potential"

 

Gomez was moved up to AAA in 2007 and got off to a good start and was then called up after Alou got hurt. Gomez followed the trend of Met Out Fielders are broke his wrist and missed a great deal of time. Watching Gomez when he first got called up he looked exactly like he should, a 21 year old rushed to the majors who wasn't ready. Gomez started looking better at the plate in June as he hit .299 but then an injury in early July shut him down for a while. Gomez was then called back up in September and the numbers might not show it but he looked a lot better at the plate, and even hit a homerun. He has a lot of projection in him and should fill out.

 

He ended up hitting .286 in 141 AB in AAA with 17 SB but more impressive a 15 to 23 walk to k ratio.

In the Majors eh not so good .232 2 homeruns 12 RBI 12 SB in 125 AB with 27 k's.

Strengths: A true five-tool athlete, Gomez has game-changing speed and a well above-average arm, tools that help make him a premium defender in center field. He also has excellent bat speed that leads to projections of at least average power, if not more. Scouts said Gomez brought needed energy to the Mets.

 

Weaknesses: Hitting will be the last tool to develop for Gomez. He?s still searching for the balance between aggressiveness and plate discipline. While he showed increased patience in 2007, it came at the expense of his power production.The

 

Future: Gomez likely will compete with Lastings Milledge for the right-field job in spring training. Milledge has more offensive polish, which could push Gomez back to Triple-A at the season?s outset.

lol @ your argument. You keep saying Gomez hasnt done anything in the minor leagues but his numbers are pretty much comparable or even better to a guy he is compared to in Grady Sizmore at the minor league level.

Gomez started the year at AAA, then got called up then got a hamate injury and then played at AAA some mmore and still held his own considering the number of ABs he recieved. I dont know the projections, maybe you do, he would of had better stats if he got the same 418 ABs that Sizemore had during his one and only stint at AAA.

 

Ok yeah 3 homers, I got that confised with when he hit 13 in AA...anyway...still nothing close to Gomez. Gomez has had one decent year I guess you could say...nothing eye-pooping at all...Sizemore put up two very good minor league seasons...so yeah

lmao, stop your argument is terrible and im laughing at you. :lol :notworthy . That's kind of weird that his tools havent even been fully developed and he was ranked #57 on mlb prospect list last season before he had the offficial number of plate appearences to be considered a major leaguer.

You're obviously misinformed and unaware of how the prospect system works...

 

If Gomez is in the deal, he wouldn't be the centerpiece

 

He's not even close to being an elite prospect. He's alright, nothing special though. Never hit above .300 in any minor league season, never OBP'd above .370, never OPS'd above 800........

 

Again, he's young...but he hasn't really opened any eyes with the bat whatsoever.

 

That's all I'll say...you can continue to think Carlos Gomez is the next Grady Sizemore....I'll just sit and wait until he becomes nothing of the sort.

Carlos Gomez compared to Grady Sizemore as a prospect? They are not even close when comparing at the same age level. Carlos Gomez has not had the rapid development of Grady by age 21 and in skill set...well very few in baseball have had the level of overall skills of Grady. Those are huge shoes to try to fit Gomez in, especially with his lukewarm stats so far in the minors

Horrible trade for the Twins

Well here the explanation why it was such a horrible trade for the Twins:

 

"With all due respect, Bill Smith was 'owned'. From the Mets alone he could have had Aaron Heilman, Ryan Church, Mike Pelfrey, and Fernando Martinez. Those 4 are better than what he got. He's an inexperienced GM. He did a really great trade with Tampa Bay that was great for both teams. In this case, he really screwed up. His problem was trying to get the Red Sox and Yankees in it at the last minute. When the Mets found out that neither gave him a final offer, they fell back on the original proposal and the Twins had no choice but to take it."
