October 26, 200322 yr We were not given a chance. Voices cried aloud for the Giants and the team with the best record in baseball. Schmidt. Bonds. A play at the plate - Pudge would not lose the ball. Then came the Cubs. The heads on TV said Cubs, and everyone in America thought 'wouldnt it be nice' and day-dreamed a Red Sox/Cubs World Series. Goats. Bernie Mac. Bartman. Prior, Wood. No one believed that this team could beat them. No one believed that this team beat them. But we did. Then the storied Yankees. Still the experts stressed the experience, the mystique, the money of the Yankees. The ghosts themselves would be playing. Who were these Marlins? Why were they here? The only ones who knew it to be possible were the men in the clubhouse, the front office, and the city of Miami and the seats of JRS. We saw boys become Men: Beckett. Penny. Cabrera. We have seen men become boys: Pudge. Lowell. McKeon. This team played out of its mind. This team deserves that trophy. And no one has gloated. No, they went about their business and were graceful in winning. They applauded Clemens. They honored their opposition by calling them a class organization. This team has every right to put its finger in Selig's chest. To point its finger across the field to the other dug out - who are now believers of teal. And this team has every right to point its middle finger at the media. But dont expect them to. They are champions. The script is perfect...
October 26, 200322 yr Great post. This was an outstanding season and I'm sad it's over. I love how no one gave the Marlins a chance even though they were in the WORLD SERIES!
October 26, 200322 yr We saw boys become Men: Beckett. Penny. Cabrera. We have seen men become boys: Pudge. Lowell. McKeon. i like that. so true this is a true team. not one where they believe that one super star will help them win it all, but a real team that depends on every single one of their players to put in their 2 cents. its not all about the home runs (we didn't have a single grand slam all season) but about small ball too. making the small plays as well as the big ones. JP is one of our best players and a key element in this series. no home runs in the post season but instead incredible bunts, burts of speed. our pay roll is less than half of that of the bankeeys. i hope that the rest of baseball learned something from us. take a page out of the book of Marlins. this team deserves their respect.
October 26, 200322 yr they never learned-they prob. still think were a bad team. they prob. think were just 'LUCKY'
October 26, 200322 yr This postseason is generally thought to be one of the best ever, if not the absolute best. I think it's pretty cool that we won it.
October 26, 200322 yr this postseason HAS to be the best. out of a possible 41 games, 38 were played! wowsa.. it's definitely the longest postseason ever
October 26, 200322 yr And this time, the Marlins earned respect!!!!!!!!!!! No longer is this a franchise a "bought" team that won the Series...This was a young team that kicked a**, and took names later.... The "bought" lable is gone!!!!!!!!!!!! Long live the Marlins!!!!!!!!!
October 26, 200322 yr personally, i thought the "bought" label was bull the first time around, invented by a bunch of jealous scalliwags. in 97 we were outspent by indians, the braves, and the yankees. lo and behold, we juked 2 of them that year, and we finished off the 3rd one this year.
October 26, 200322 yr I'm so proud of these guys, everything they have accomplished and everything they have given to South Florida!! I'm living a dream, I can't imagine what they're feeling right now!!
October 26, 200322 yr Author Amen, this is amazing. It still hasnt totally sent in yet... Got to be one of the best postseasons ever - especially in recent memory.
October 26, 200322 yr Best month, ever. I still can't believe it's over. We just witnessed a team play to the maximum of their ability (for now, some will get better) for 17 games. If it gets better than this postseason, I'll be shocked. And the best part... We might just be even better next year.
October 26, 200322 yr It is a great feeling that we didn't "buy" this team. With the exception of JP, Cabs, and D-Train, we have been watching these guys for years. The TRUE MARLINS: Lowell, Sea Bass, Luis, DLee. Looper! yoU GOTTA BE SO happy for these guys!
October 26, 200322 yr "This team doesn't have Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens," says relief pitcher Chad Fox. "We don't have huge names. But what we've got is a true team. And if you've got a true team that plays together and pulls together the way this team does, I think I'd rather have that than three superstars."
October 26, 200322 yr they all do thier jobs-thats why we won the WS-we dont have a player who always wins the games for us-they take turns.
October 26, 200322 yr The TRUE MARLINS: Lowell, Sea Bass, Luis, DLee. Looper! yoU GOTTA BE SO happy for these guys! yawn they are all "true" marlins
October 27, 200322 yr Looks like now we get the Brooklyn Bridge. Thats right, Mikey!!! FORK IT OVER!!! :angry
