Looking to buy an XBOX 360

Featured Replies

I'm trying to get me a 360 and don't really wanna spend the $299 its gonna cost this Sunday. I saw some refurbs and preowneds online and at Gamestop in the $199-$220 range that looked enticing. I've heard about the RROD and all that, but some of you guys might know; is it safe to buy one of these?? Will I get stuck with a lemon if its refurbed. Some friends tell me yes, some say theyre the same as a new unit. I'm confused, and scared.

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all!

buy a ps3!! I havent heard a lot of great things about the 360. I guess its preference, but I love the ps3. I love all the games you can get in the network for like 5-10 bucks. Plus its just like a computer and really open to customize. Oh yea-ONLINE IS FREE! :D

save up! its worth it. But neither system is awesome unless you have a 720 or 1080 TV with HDMI cables. Its a full investment. If you have just a regular tv and no HD, buy a Wii way more worht it for the money and what you are doing.

I like the 360 better, but once again, just a matter of preference. Online might not be free, but you get what you pay for.

They say the RROD rate is something like 11%, which is high as hell, but not nearly the panic in the streets you hear about on the net. If it makes you feel better, I got mine at launch and it's still kicking.

RROD is high, but I also bought a 360 at launch and have not had the problem. I will say though I have not touched it since I bought a PS3. I bought the PS3 about a year and a half ago.

The network is a little cooler for xboxlive, but like you said all a matter of preference.

The thing I like about the ps3 and syncing it with the psp and the ability to customize it. It is pretty much open source for customization and you can do anything with it. Plus Blu-Ray is the player now, so thats always a plus.

XBOX360 has a few unique titles you will not get on PS3, but overall games are pretty much equal.

no batteries is key for the ps3 too.

just do it already, you have been talking about it for mooonnnths!!!!

plus fifa will be that much better when i'm beating your ass in it online.

360 and PS3 are not even close. The XBox is a much better system. There's really only one game on the PS3 that isn't on the X. Also, almost evey game developer that is making games for both systems are making them on the Box and then porting that version to the PS3. They find it too expensive to bother with the devloment costs to work soley on that system. There is a HUGE online community on Box and I guess there might be a few people that play on PS3. I also would like to point out that the PS2 had many more issues than the Xbox 360, you just don't hear about it due to the Microsoft bashing bandwagon. Some people just love the brand name, Sony, but the system is hardly worth the price, and is surely not worth choosing over a Xbox.

OK, you keep on telling yourself that.

I was at Gamestop today picking up "God of War 2" and before I left my friend mentioned something about the XBOX 360, and I responded with so many XBOX 360's break down. one of the employees over heard me and said that

XBOX 360 - 16% break down rate

compared to

PS3 - 2% break down rate

I still have my PS2 because I enjoy the games on PS2, and PS3 is still too expensive. I am thinking in about a year hopefully the price will be a little more reasonable. Then I will purchase that shiny black blue ray game player. :D

Would you like to retort or do you just have nothing to say?

360 ownz the sh*t out of the PS3. The exclusives are MUCH better and for multi-platform games, you don't have to do any stupid ass installing of the game on your hard drive. That one guy said "I havent heard a lot of great things about the 360" well I don't know where the hell he's hearing "things" but that's absolutely ridiculous. Unlike every other system, 360 has variety. It has a sh*t load of FPS, but it also has a lot of stuff the PS3 and Wii don't have.

With that said, buying refurbished 360's from GameStop isn't always a good idea because there's no guarantee that Microsoft will replace it when you get the red rings. You might have to pay 100 bucks instead of it getting done for free. So you might as well spend the extra hundred bucks for a new system and a lot more stuff. $199 360 comes with the 360, a wired controller, and that's it. The Pro comes with a lot more.

Actually its only a matter of opinion but...

The PS3 is worth at least 200 dollars more

and

The PS3 has a blue ray player and looks much better graphically.

Well, yeah, the PS3 has a Blue Ray player. Yeah, the PS3 has a couple of exclusive games that look better graphically. However, the vast majority of games you play on the PS3 look the exact same as they do on the box. The reason why? They're ports from the box. Also, the "better graphics" aren't that dramatic to begin with.

"Much better" on the 360? Oh please. If there was a side by side no one would even be able to tell the differences between games. I, and a lot of people, don't give a crap about a video game system having a blu ray player. If they did, the PS3 would be selling like crazy. It's a nice little add-on but when it comes to VIDEO GAMES (Since it is a VIDEO GAME SYSTEM), 360 beats it no contest.

Hahahahaha I'm getting ready to get one this week. Gotta practice on the FIFA though.

And yeah, Libelula is right, at least I dont really care to spend and extra $100 bucks for a Blu-Ray player. I'm beginning to think that the PS3 is too much system for what I really need, which is basically maybe and hour a day (if that) of probably 2 or 3 games.

The graphics are a 100times different. The Disc size alone allows more capability on the PS3.

The problem I have with people comparing is I am sure most of you haven't played them on a 1080p tv with HDMI cables. I have and you can not believe the different. It is unbelievable. My personal tv is only 720p and at that it is a little harder to see, but 360 only has 720p and some games 1080i capability, while all PS3 games are able to be viewed in 1080p. It does make a huge difference.

But like I said save your money if you are playing a 24 inch tube tv. They will all look the same and not that amazing. Get a Wii or save money for a TV too.

As for the Blu-Ray player it does make a difference, because most people who have a ps3 have HD tv's so it comes in handy. People do not buy it just for that, but it is a huge selling point since BR players are still 300+.

Also, 360 should fix the RROD problem when they came out with the Elite system. Instead they jsut make it black with a few more things and charge more money. At least the PS3 has montly updates that fixes stuff and makes things run smoother. It is a much more complete system. As METSrosexual said though if its 1 hour a day and not to intensive it doesnt matter. I would just play both systems and see what you think.

The Bluetooth is also huge for the PS3 no battery replacement, no wired controllers, the controllers have Saxxis so on some games its like the Wii and when you move the controller it does things. Very cool

lol, a quadruple post, nice going!, I refuse to buy a system until I have a place of my own, until then I can leech off of everyone else

The installing takes 2 minutes and cuts load times down to nothing.

And the lack of good exclusives is bulls***, you have no idea what you're talking about:

-- Resistance Fall of Man: my favorite PS3 game, the campaign and online are freaking amazing.

-- Uncharted: IGN Game of the Year

-- Metal Gear Solid 4: worth buying the system alone for

-- GT 5 Prologue

-- Ratchet and Clank

-- The Show baseball series (the best baseball series out there IMO)

And there's so many great titles coming out soon:

-- Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII

-- GT5

-- Resistance 2

-- Driver

I don't know why 360 owners feel the need to get into a pissing contest regarding PS3 and 360 -- they're both great systems and you can't go wrong with either.
