July 13, 200818 yr I doubt anyone here cares or is old enough to remember Bobby Murcer, but I just wanted to say thanks to a real class act, and my first fav Yankee growing up in NY in the late 60s and early 70s......... RIP Bobby, have a beer with Thurman........you will be missed...... my prayers go out to his family........

I remember Bobby Murcer well although I hated the Yankees all my life and I felt he was an overrated power hitter He was nothing but a class act. I am very saddened by this news and every real baseball fan should be as well
July 13, 200818 yr Murcer had the unenviable task of replacing Mickey Mantle on the Yanks. Both were from Oklahoma and were looked as saviors for the franchise. The poor fellow put up some decent numbers for some very bad teams with Yankees, but he was always held up to the comparison of Mantle. He was a 5 time all-star that the fans finally accepted him upon his return to the team in 1979. He was a pretty good broadcaster too. R.I.P.
July 13, 200818 yr It's good to see the Yankees wear the stripe on their uniforms to honor Bobby. I wish I could see all of the tributes the YES Network is showing tonight, but unfortunately it isn't available in Maine. (Although through MLB.TV and Extra Innings, I do see many YES game broadcasts.) He was definitely one of my favorite Yankee announcers .
July 14, 200818 yr Author there are some cool videos of him on YouTube....one has him being the mystery guest on Whats My Line. and one shows a half inning in the OLD Yankee Stadium 1972, where he, Roy White and Felipe Alou (yes, that Felipe Alou) are batting....nothing earthshaking, its a 1-2-3 inning but interesting considering there is very little tape of games from that time.........
