we dont have many catching prospects so i was thinking about this trade this offseason sending mike jacobs to the yankees for catching prospect jesus montero. hes only 18 and hes gonna be a good power hitter! what do u think?

I think acquiring an eighteen year old to be your catcher of the future has disaster written all over it if the price is a major league hitter who will conceivably hit 30 homeruns this season. And yes I know the Marlins drafted a high school catcher this summer so I'm not ignoring that the front office thinks otherwise.

 

I'll be happy to be wrong on all counts.

I think acquiring an eighteen year old to be your catcher of the future has disaster written all over it if the price is a major league hitter who will conceivably hit 30 homeruns this season. And yes I know the Marlins drafted a high school catcher this summer so I'm not ignoring that the front office thinks otherwise.

ya hes only 18 but hes already in AA so hes on his way up! but i dont think the yanks will trade him because of how short they are on catching

Don't we already have a young catcher named Skipworth? Why have two guys you have to wait several years for? More likely, the front office will try to trade one of its starters to get an intermediate catcher that will stay until Skipworth is ready.
