September 3, 200817 yr John Baker should start at catcher. He's better than Pudge is at this stage in their respective careers.
September 3, 200817 yr 3.Jacobs is not the best defensive 1st baseman, but do u really feel bringing in a rookie to start will increase the defense? I would say more errors at that That is absolutely asssanine. Gaby Sanchez is a very good first baseman. (defensively)

September 3, 200817 yr John Baker should start at catcher. He's better than Pudge is at this stage in their respective careers. sorry, but i disagree. I wouldnt want baker as my starting catcher. He can hit but he's not good defensively. We need a defensive catcher.

(defensively) again he may be very good defensively, but nerves get to the best of them when they are called up. Especially when Hanley is giving him balls in the dirt

He can hit but he's not good defensively. We need a defensive catcher. Pudge is not the same guy he was 4 years ago defensively. John Baker is not a great defensive catcher but he is more than serviceable and he brings alot to the table at the plate.

We need a defensive catcher. yes, I love Baker but again we need somebody that teams are afraid to run on, I don't know who that will be yet, but I do not believe Baker wills start next year, he was just a temporary replacement for now

Gaby Sanchez is 10x the defensive player that Mike Jacobs is.

At this point in their careers, John Baker is the better player.
September 3, 200817 yr yes, I love Baker but again we need somebody that teams are afraid to run on, I don't know who that will be yet, but I do not believe Baker wills start next year, he was just a temporary replacement for now I'll do a ban bet that Baker starts next year

Sure, but are u willing to take away that kind of presence in the middle of the order, an automatic 30 home run 100 RBI guy who has been catching on fire as of late? I mean I was never the biggest Jacobs fan, but the stats don't lie, he has been a great hitter for this team

I am not that dumb

He's not a great hitter by any stretch of the imagination. He brings homeruns and virtually nothing else to the table. He is not that valuable a commodity.

Also, Mike Jacobs is NOT a very good hitter... he's a "go for broke" hitter...

September 3, 200817 yr Bringing Maybin to the OF will be a huge defensive upgrade. Cody at LF, Hermida in RF, and Maybin in center is a solid spread. A young catcher with a lot of upside would be a great addition, as well as a more consistent (offensively and defensively) infielder. If we are willing to trade Jacobs, Gregg, maybe Olsen, we can really get this done. The answer clearly lies somewhere between scratching everything and rebuilding and trying to go for broke and make a run. Our team needs to get better defensively and more consistent at the plate. The shortcomings of 2008 are obvious, and steps will be taken to improve in these areas. Have faith in the front office, the fish are poised for good things in the near future. PS - we need a more aggressive 3rd base coach.
September 3, 200817 yr Baker is good, but we cant keep him as our starter. he's a good hitter, but not very good defensivley. Rambo Mcdonald, Pudge would be a great addition to our team. he's still a good hitter, and he is still good defensively. Having him starting next year and baker backing him up would be perfect.

Rambo Mcdonald, Pudge would be a great addition to our team. he's still a good hitter, and he is still good defensively. Having him starting next year and baker backing him up would be perfect. For a guy who's OBP relies mostly on his AVG, any dip in his AVG kills his productivity. Thus he ain't that good of an offensive player anymore. Baker absolutely anhiliates him in that spot right now. Baker is more than adequate behind the plate. He busts his tail and works at his craft. He's come a long way since his days in Bakersfield
September 3, 200817 yr Pudge is pretty terrible as a hitter, and his defense has slipped. terrible as a hitter? He's hitting .281 right now and hes defense is still better than bakers.

Why would we want to take a step backwards. People need to stop relying on baseball card stats (AVG, HR, RBI) and learn about OBP, OPS, and VORP for starters. It will make you all much smarter baseball minds.

Im pretty sure we can go next year with pudge who is still good offensively, and better than baker defensively.
September 3, 200817 yr Pudge is the sexy pick because of his name, not because of his production Im not picking pudge for his name. im picking him for his defense and solid offense.
