Hanley sitting again

Featured Replies

MIAMI -- Hanley Ramirez is not quite ready yet.

Recovering from a strained left shoulder, the Marlins' shortstop was out of the starting lineup for the third straight day on Saturday, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said he won't be available until Monday, at the earliest.

"I like to get him to hit, throw and catch before we even put him in the game," Gonzalez said about Ramirez, who's only been getting treatment and hasn't done any baseball activities. "We'll take that precaution before risking it by having him say, 'Yeah, I'm ready to go,' and putting him in the game."

With the way Cameron Maybin and Alfredo Amezaga have been swinging the bat lately, Ramirez could take his time. Maybin, hitting in the leadoff spot and playing center field for the third straight night, is batting .818 since being called up and has already tied two franchise records by reaching base in 10 straight plate appearances and notching eight consecutive hits. Alfredo Amezaga, who's been filling in at shortstop and is batting eighth in the second of a three-game series against the Phillies, is hitting .350 (7-for-20) in his last five games entering Saturday.

Gonzalez said when Ramirez does return, he anticipates putting him back in the leadoff spot and keeping Maybin in center field, but batting him lower in the lineup. Psh! Who needs him!? We've been doing just fine w/o him. :p

But really, it does suck having your best player out during the most important games of the season :confused

Important games, it would be nice to have Hanley.

But I would rather have Hanley healthy for all year next year than risk him not being 100% and injuring himself.

What are you talking about gregg is fine. Yeah it does suck having him out, i wonder if fredi is being to cautious with him. I mean these games are make or break and we need him.

damn, I guess Amezaga is going to be our SS for the next couple of games,i would however like to see Andino get the start at SS today,

Thank God for Maybin. It's good to not have to rush Hanley or be desperate to have him back in the lineup. Usually I think there's that conflict between the team needing him vs making sure he's ok, but with Maybin in, it's no problem.

He should sit out. We certainly aren't stuggling with him in the line up or out on the field playing defense. Leave him put to get get healthy and let's continue winning ball games!

'Ya gotta put your best available players to start, at this point in the season.

Amezaga > > > Andino.

Amezaga is versitile, but Andino is a better player to have up in a crucial moment in the ninth, just look at what today's game is going to come down to, that clutch hit in the 9th

Why...because he did it one time?
