I may not like Uggla as much as the next person, but we are not finding the kind of production he gives us anywhere else, unless Chase Utley or Ian Kinsler magically fall into our laps >_>

Coughlen is worse defensively, is fast but we will have enough speed on the team next year, and is a major downgrade in power. Add to that that he is a rookie and most likely we cannot rely on him as much as Uggla in clutch situations, and i say this team gets a hell of a lot worse without Uggz

#3 i dont really like. It doesnt make sense to trade hermida after one bad season. I dont know why, but everyone seems to forget his great 2007 year.

According to him, a players past is what matters.

U really need to see a guys past stats to recognize how he will do in the future. But those 2007 stats are very misleading. That was the only year thus far that he has had respectable stats. He struck out over 100 times then too, and is not a power hitter. Hermida has not identified a type of hitter he will be, this will cause Fredi problems in deciding where to put him in the lineup

Uggla:

RISP w/2 Outs = .250 Average

I don't think the A's want Jacobs tbh. They are looking to build off of pitching and defense for the future, and Jacobs doesn't fit in the plan. The third trade makes absolutely no sense, mostly because nobody would want Gregg via trade, and although Hermida has potential he has nearly ZERO trade value at this point

Whos your source?

I don't need a source, I just read a bunch of articles. People have spoken that if Gregg had 35+ saves with 5 or less blown saves, we could've gotten a B prospect in return, but he led the league in BS, he is nothing but a middle reliever that would be signed for minimum contract, think of BK Kim.

Hermida is just like Quentin was with the D-Backs, they gave him time to grow up, and he never did. They let him go at the end of his contract, and the White Sox signed him for almost minimum cash.

You're dead wrong if you think that the interest in Gregg and BK Kim are the same. Gregg's ERA and WHIP are both a good bit above average.

He's probably going to be the setup man wherever we send him to and he'll probably be pretty good at it. And then we'll have people here asking why he couldn't pitch that well here but the truth is that he is an above average reliever. He was an above average reliever here and he will be one wherever we send him.

Gregg is a fine reliever, but do u really see any trade value in him after having the most blown saves in MLB with not that many save chances? Somebody will grab Gregg in free Agency

Say what you want about Gregg but he was 12th in save opportunities in the Majors. That's not "not that many chances".

Secondly, teams won't see him as a guy with the 9 blown saves because he won't be used as a closer. He'll be seen as a guy who was 12th in WHIP and 13th in ERA amongst ML relievers with at least 15 saves. In 2007 he had the 8th best Save Percentage of any reliever with at least 15 saves as well.

The problem is that you are thinking like a fan, not like someone who runs a team.

So I should say Hermida will do good since he's career avg is .267 and averages 100 strikeouts

Uggla:

RISP w/2 Outs = .250 Average

More specifically, .250/.429/.484. That's a .913 OPS, which is very good. League average is .241/.351/.381.

He also hit .325/.455/.600 when late and close and .290/.417/.524 with RISP.

what are u talking about? I am an advocate in trading Hermida. My first statement was just saying that in general u need stats to backup a claim. Hermida's stats do not show that he is a very good MLB player, and he is most likely a 1 season wonder. And since i have watched marlins games, he has to be one of the laziest fielders i have ever seen.

For the first trade, we are receiving to little in return. And i would like to keep Uggla because it is hard to replace his numbers.

#2 will never work. The As have cust as a DH and their top prospect Daric Barton at first

Yes, it is hard to replace his 117 strikeouts and incredible mental inconsistency

No, it's hard to replace a guy who was 2nd in the league in OPS and 3rd in OBP amongst 2B.

He's one of the best 2B in baseball and the best in the history of the franchise.

the best in the history of the franchise.

Do you remember Louie Castillo? My all-time favorite who was consistent, never had a mental breakdown and hit a whole friggin more than Uggla

Of course I remember Castillo. I love Castillo. But the plain fact is that Castillo could never produce what Uggla does and he'll be the first one to say that.

2 differnet type of players. Louie is ment to get a single and not strikeout. Ugglas is to swing for the fences and strikeout.

thus the reason why Castillo is a natural #2 hitter and Uggla is a natural #6 hitter. Now here is the question u need to ask urself, what are the marlins more in need of right now, a good #2 hitter (Coughlen) or a proven all star #6 hitter (Uggla)?

Strikeouts don't matter as long as you walk. And Uggla did that. He might have K'd, but he also has the 2nd best OBP on the team and 3rd best amongst 2B.

We got enough power, we need baserunners. Proven all star? Didn't he suck because of pressure on the all star game? then had a mental breakdown? all stars dont do that.

Baserunners? Dan Uggla was the 3rd best 2B at getting becoming a baserunner and was the 2nd best on the team at that same feat.

And the "pressure" of the ASG had very little to do with that if you ask me. Him playing on a bad ankle just might have had something to do with it.

Strikeouts dont matter??????? :banghead

How many of those strikeouts could had been game winners? homeruns? doubles?triples? Ill take those over walks anyday. Have you ever played the game before? Strikeouts are what you try not to do

If he didnt pull a Gregg and stopped playing on it, he might have done better.

How many of them could have been game ending double plays? Groundouts? Popups? Flyouts at the track? A liner to short? Have you ever watched the game before?

No, OUTS are what you don't try to do. Not strikeouts, but outs. "Oh, yeah, the bases were loaded with one out, but atleast I hit it to short for the double play instead of striking out!"

Awesome.

Your dislike for Uggla seems to have clouded your mind.

I don't advocate a player playing hurt but I can understand. At the time of his injury he had just come off the best single month in the short history of the franchise. He just wanted to get back into the game.

OHHHHHHHH, as long as he wanted to get back and play! Sure, lets give him a pat on the back as he hobbles on out there to 2nd base

There is some god awful stuff in here.

that really doesn't contribute to the question at hand if u ask me

OHHHHHHHH, as long as he wanted to get back and play! Sure, lets give him a pat on the back as he hobbles on out there to 2nd base

its called playing for ur paycheck. Then if he doesn't play we call him a p*ssy for not playing through a minor injury. Players can never win. I don't have a problem with Uggla as a player, I am saying he is the best we will be able to find at 2nd base for next year, and there will be no trade that would benefit us that includes uggla

The comments on this thread are ridiculous.

Comparing Uggla and Luis Castillo, as hitters, is laughable.

And the Jeremy Hermida comments are laughable, as well.

Jeremy Hermida had a .975 .OPS in AA, at the age of 21. That's a better .OPS than Gaby Sanchez this year, in AA (Gaby is 25 years of age). Better than John Raynor (24 years of age).

For shits and giggles...Hermida is currently younger than Sanchez and Raynor (two prospects the board, in general, seems to like).

For shits and giggles...why don't you check some stats from some other 24 year olds? Like...the All-Star 2B, Dan Uggla.

If you don't know how to evaluate a prospect...don't. Prospects pan out differently. There's no point in trading Hermida, when his trade value isn't as high as it will be, in a couple years.

If you don't believe Hermida is capable of hitting 25-30 HR's...you're a fool. He hit 17 this year, in what was a down year with injuries and production.

His #'s last year at the age of 23 were .296/.369/.501 (.340/.401/.555 in the 2nd half).

Hermida is a career .284/.363/.467 hitter on the road, which isn't terrible at all. For those who actually understand baseball...they understand how difficult Dolphin Stadium can be on left-handed hitters (especially young left-handed hitters).

Hermida should only get better...most players NOT in their prime do.

If this team lets Hermida go for nothing...all of you will regret it. And the same people who are bashing him now, will bash Beinfest when Hermida turns into a solid OF'er, who was let go for nothing.

Keep Hermida.

OHHHHHHHH, as long as he wanted to get back and play! Sure, lets give him a pat on the back as he hobbles on out there to 2nd base

Like I said, I'm not a fan of it. But if it was Louie out there you would be praising him on putting the team first and being there when his team needs him.

When Hanley said "I don't care if it's broke", did you say "No Hanley, you selfish idiot who doesn't know the game, you better not be there for the most important game of the season"? I highly doubt it.
