Anyone see this movie?

I went to see it last night. I thought it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Besides a few minor things (some of the wardrobe, the story telling, and the big fish feel) I would rank this as a top 25 movies I have ever seen.

I can't wait to see it, it has been far and away my most eagerly anticipated movie of 2008 for a long, long time now.

I want to see this so bad, I might go today.

This is the one with Brad Pit and he age's backwards right?

I heard it was good i might go tonight after i see the new Owen Wilson movie

I used to think Brad Pitt was a pretty boy, but the older he gets, the more acting chops he has.

As he has aged, he has chosen his roles carefully, not trying to recapture his youth but roles which fit him as he is now.

He seems to be shaping up as the Robert Redford of our time.

He LOOKS a lot like Redford the older he gets.

something just seems funny about that statement.

I'll be interested to see if it's that good, or if it's just patronizing. Too many films are three hours long.

I've heard from some of my more reputable sources that the movie isn't bad, but is "boring" at times. That said, I heard from one of my least reputable sources (the kind that loves Michael Bay movies) that the movie is "really good", so I don't know what to think.

That's weird, because I would have thought that a big fan of Michael Bay movies would hate this right off the bat.

me too, this doesn't pace or develop like a Michael Bay movie. It is completely different and doesn't seem like a movie Bay fans would really enjoy. It is definitely worth the watch.

What a horrible disappointment this movie was. I've literally been anticipating this movie for years now and cannot fathom why it was delayed so long. I still love the look and feel of his films, but Fincher really let me down here. Brad Pitt was not good either, it was a role that had potential to be an epic, memorable character that people would remember for years - ala Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, but Pitt could not possibly have been any more bland. Seriously, how about showing some f***ing emotion Brad??? And this coming from a fan of his, loved him in Fight Club, Seven, Interview with the Vampire etc. but if you are playing a 15 year old in a bar getting laid hanging out with a bunch of sea men how about acting like a 15 year old in a bar getting laid hanging out with a bunch of sea men??? Show something!

That was one of my gripes (of many) with the movie, he always acted like a boring 60 year old man despite his age until he was actually a 60 year old man then all of a sudden h we start to see some emotion and he starts acting like a 20 something guy might.

I would have loved to have seen this in the hands of Tim Burton, he would have given this film some life, some comedy...something. Instead it's a bland, boring bio about a guy who really doesn't do anything except he just happens to grow young. If you are going to go that route at least think of the potential later in the film when he is a wise, 65 year old man in a 16 year old's body.. something could have been done there, but nope...can't include anything remotely interesting in this movie.

Why do movies like this get rated high? Is it because going in people KNOW it is critically acclaimed, has Brad Pitt, has a different, interesting storyline with a talented director so they just automatically give it the good ratings because everyone else is?

The entire movie is cliche after cliche after cliche plus an extremely forced Jenny from Forrest Gump type romance with a girl; add in no comedy with a flat performance from a normally solid actor plus a predictable movie throughout and you get The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Curious as to only why it had to be so bad.

Ugh.

it got a little boring on some parts but overall i really liked the movie. it had its some moments, some good, some bad and obviously some sad.

Ok, so I saw this. Unfortunately I have to mostly agree with Godfather on this one. The only difference was that I wasn't eagerly anticipating it so I wasn't really let down (if you will).

Overall, this is a pretty bad film. It does have solid direction and production values. I was impressed with the art direction (and attention to detail) as well as the make-up but it's hard to expect less from a big budget Hollywood film with a star actor.

First let me say that I don't like films like Forrest Gump. To me they are melodramatic duds by trying to succeed solely on the basis of inciting strong emotional (often cliched) responses from the audience. The long stretch of timeline of the narrative only contributes to the superficiality (mostly due to fast pacing that inhibits meaningful character persona and the overall possibility that the viewer might be challenged). This film, like Forrest Gump is nothing but an overly melodramatic mess that presents a diluted portrait of American history. I will concede that Forrest Gump is far more of an offender in this category than Benjamin Button is.

The reverse-age motif is merely a gimmick that is surprisingly underplayed. It is the typical cliched Hollywood romance life cycle that dominates this film.

I potentially have a lot more to say but I'll leave it at that for now as I await the backlash that I usually receive here for panning a popular film.

I had a bad feeling you were going to like this one, glad to hear you concur! Gimmicky is a good word to describe it; gimmicky and overly dramatic with somehow extremely flat acting.
