Willy Taveras Signs with Reds

Featured Replies

Best move Marlins made all offseason

he is a decent for average and good leadoff guy. Not really a Marlins fit, but not a bad move by the reds.

Man are some people mad at this signing. Just going through some of the other boards. Don't know why people hate him so much. He's being killed. It's easy to pick on someone's faults. So he's not a 5 tool player. So. He does have SOME value. Maybe not a good fit for all teams, but he does have something to offer.

No he isn't. No player with a .604 OPS is a good player.

He would have been a great addition to our bench.

No he wouldn't. Carroll or Raynor could provide what he does for cheaper, and with more hitting potential.

Because he really sucks. His value is him playing for other teams so he isn't creating ungodly amount of outs for your team.

And this is why Taveras gets signed

no need to sh*t on the guy.

he is a career .283 hitter. Like I said not a great player, but a good player.

He's also a career .331 .OBP guy with no power, at all.

And his stats are actually deceiving in his favor as well, considering the only semi-good year he had offensively was in 2007, where he inflated his stats a bit getting to play in Coors Field.

He's not very good...at all.

If all you're looking for is a guy to run fast, Willy Taveras is a good signing for you. If you expect him to get himself into a position where his running matters, signing Willy Taveras will disappoint you.

Ditto. Taveras is overrated as a starter. To sign him as a leadoff man is just wrong. He's more valuable playing off the bench as a defensive replacement and pinch runner.
