Guillen new skipper of White Sox

Featured Replies

Congrats to Oz. He is going to be a fine manager. But now he is gone, this is going to effect us. My question is, how does this effect those players who liked Guillen - even looked up to him? A Gon? Castillo? Urbina? Even Cabrera?

And, who do we get to be 3rd base coach? Tim Raines has been mentioned, which I like - if he is going to be aggressive like Guillen. That is going to be a huge hole to fill.

I too want to congratulate Ozzie on his new endeavor in Chicago. I wish him and his new team well.

Ozzie was a player's coach who will be sorely missed. But while he is gone, the lessons he instilled in our ballplayers will live on and hopefully our next third base coach will bring many of the same qualities with him. For myself, six months from now, I don't see this as having any significant longterm effect on the team.

I like the idea of having Tim Raines as 3rd base coach. The only problem is that Guillen was the lone spanish-speaking coach in the clubhouse, and you need someone who can have "easy access" to the spanish-speaking players, especially Sea-Bass who needs every once in a while to be told to keep his head straight... I think they also mentioned Cookie Rojas, but I would like someone younger who can relate to our young spanish-speaking players...

Chalk me up as one who is in support of Raines. The Miami Herald mentioned AAA manager Dean Treanor as a possible candidate, but the Sun-Sentinel said they would go outisde the organization to fill the spot.

Last week Albuquerque reported Treanor would serve as the "roving pitching coach" for the organization. ie:BP, Consultation.

I like Rock at 3rd also.

What about the Hawk? Whats he doing?

What about the Hawk? Whats he doing? Dawson and Perez are "special assistants to the general manager" or something, aren't they? I know Dawson worked with Cabrera in the OF.

That's a great point, being an anglo it hadn't dawned on me :thumbup

rock raines is the right man for the job

we brought him in last yr as a clubhouse influence, so we should do so again

ozzie will be missed more than most people realize. remember, 2004 is likely to be j-mac's last yr in baseball and ozzie wouldve replaced him. speaking of ozzie, while im happy he got the job, i have to say cito gaston is blacklisted. how could he not get the job? he does a good job and he has 2 rings to prove it.
