In papers filed in state and federal court, Dall said Alomar finally got tested in January 2006 while suffering from a cough, fatigue and shingles.

"The test results of him being HIV-positive was given to him and the plaintiff on or about Feb.6, 2006," the $15 million negligence suit says.

Nine days later, the couple went to see a disease specialist who discovered a mass in the retired second baseman's chest, the court papers say.

Alomar's skin had turned purple, he was foaming at the mouth and a spinal tap "showed he had full-blown AIDS," the suit says.

That is sad. I do wonder though what percentage of professional athletes do have the HIV virus though, I'd think it is higher than what know of.

If true, that's sad and f***ed up.

If false, then that's sad and f***ed up that she'd do that.

She kept having sex with him even after the diagnosis. She's going for money, plain and simple.

Still, one has to wonder about Robbie and, assuming this is right and he does have full-blown AIDS, how long he has left...

She's going for the money so she can liquefy it and inject it into her bloodstream.

Thank you South Park. But what this case also shows is another example of how vaginal sex has a low likelihood of spreading HIV without the assitance of another disease.

AIDS. sucks.

Considering the amount of money he has, he should be able to afford top-notch medical treatment...so I'm thinking he has a while left (see Johnson, Magic). Regardless though, it's a real sad thing to hear.

If its true its sad, he came up in he age of safe sex, but I will say a friend of mine who played with him on the Jays had the impression that Alomar was gay. I'll refrain from saying he probably got from the Mets, that would be the low road.

I heard on the Le batard show that wehn he ws 17 in mexico he got raped according to this girl filing the suit.

Which means precisely dick if one is in denial, unfortunately. If he does indeed have full-blown AIDS (which may be doubtful, considering it's been three years since the alleged diagnosis) then he probably does not have much time left.

Magic has been healthy because he never got full-blown AIDS. He probably could afford to get on the cutting-edge of suppressive therapies, and was probably experimented on with today's anti-retroviral HAART therapies. But once someone goes full-blown, that means it's now attacking the body, including and especially the nervous system. There is literally nothing one can do.

I don't believe this story. There are a lot of holes. I also find it odd that she didn't get the disease, even though they were having unprotected sex a lot.

So he has AIDS. I have asthma. That is his business and we shouldn't be discussing it. That is his business. Millions of people suffer from ailments that we've never heard of and it doesn't make the front page. His situation should be no exception.

We don't KNOW he has AIDS OR HIV. She is alleging that is the case. It doesn't mean it's true yet.

Vaginal sex, between otherwise healthy people, is unlikely to transmit AIDS, but that is a dirty little secret.

not true for woman. True for men

infected male is likely to transmit the virus to a healthy woman

infected female is very unlikely to transmit the virus to a healthy man

Assuming vaginal sex only

not true for woman. True for men

False, unless you mean that women are at more risk, which is true but misleading

infected male is likely to transmit the virus to a healthy woman

false, unless likely = rarely, look at what the AMA says to itself in published documents

infected female is very unlikely to transmit the virus to a healthy man

True, cartoonishly rare

Assuming vaginal sex only

I did say Vaginal after all
