April 18, 200917 yr Easy vote tonight, imo. Coming into the season, I thought the bullpen would be the biggest weakness, and I still think it is, but they've been awesome, lately. I'm not taking back what I said on the gamethread, either. I was the one who used the Lindstrom-Gregg comparison. That's not a horrible thing, either. Despite the criticisms, Gregg isn't a terrible reliever. That's what I think of Lindstrom...I think he's average. It's nice to see him get the 1 run save tonight (for the team, itself, and my fantasy team, as well), but I still don't trust him. He was about a foot away from blowing it on Elijah Dukes' shot. He's extremely predictable right now, and while you don't want to get beat on your second pitch when you throw 98...it's always nice to mix it up a bit. He'd be better off if he threw his slider every once in awhile, and he'd be better if he used his splitter against left-handed hitters. I have more confidence in Leo Nunez. Don't take back the comparison because there is none-that's fine. Whether you are average or phenominal it all comes down to getting the job done. A foot from blowing it is still not blowing it. Now, you were predicting him to blow the save tonight and guess what happened, he didn't, so how can he be predictable? Oh, I get it, you mean he is predictable in what pitches he throws, got you. I agree with mixing it up for sure, but you go with what is working. (Don't give me it wasn't working with Dukes, because although it didn't work out with him it worked on everybody else). Yeah Nunez is good in the 8th inning, he'll be good there for the rest of the year right before Lindstrom comes in the game.
April 18, 200917 yr YIPPIE! What a win. This is a game we could have easily lost, and probably should have. Great to see us dig deep and come up big when it counts. Grit and determination are very important qualities for a team looking to make a playoff run and tonight we showed both. I was sitting pretty close to the left foul pole, and had some observations/questions for people watching at home: 1. The Cody jack was so clutch. Off the bat, I thought it was a fly out for sure, but my buddy said it had a chance, and then I saw it delicately drop just above the wall and just fair of the foul marker and started going berserk. How did it look off the bat? Did the announcers think it was gone? I think they said it had a chance, but I thought it was going to be caught at the wall. 2. What happened with Nolasco? Was he as bad as he looked from the stands? It seemed like he could not locate and when he did, the Nats knew exactly where he was going. He was not fooling anyone tonight, yet he kept us in the game only giving up 2 runs. Lannan pitched a gem. Was our hitting horrible or does the kid deserve some credit? I feel like its the latter. Nolasco was definitely not on tonight, he was running high pitch at bats, but in the end he kept us in the game giving up only two ERs. :notworthy Lannan definitely deserves a ton of credit, we couldn't get good swings off him all night. He only had one mistake. 3. Why the hell did the Nats double switch out Adam Dunn? I understand he plays poor defense, but you are sort of putting all you eggs in one basket. Getting Hanrahan as the 3rd out in the bottom of the 9th was very fortunate. Questionable move. Not sure why this happened. The normal manager of the Nationals was ejected out of the game in the early innings though, so it seems like the "backup" manager made a big mistake there 4. I was wearing my #24 Cabrera shirt with a Maybin printed-out-at-home nameplate taped over Cab's. The copy paper fell off sometime after Maybin's 2nd strikeout. But he came on a bit stronger at the end of the game. Not really a question, but good idea with the piece of paper! Find something stickier to keep it on though :cool 5. Only had two beers, had to come home an study (post) :thumbdown Good luck, don't procrastinate too much. 6. Solid night from the bullpen as well. Great to see. Those guys have a few W's already this season. Overall, it was a great night at the park. Got some free baseball, saw an exciting game. Best of all, Marlins are 9-1 for the best start in franchise history. Today is a happy Friday for Fish fans. Savor it. Definitely a great night at the park (not really for the Nationals' fans though), and yes the bullpen was excellent. :cool
April 18, 200917 yr This has to be the pen who did a pretty good job today. As for the offense, they looked a little lost at the plate in the beginning. Sure, I can give credit to the Nats' SP but 10 men LOB? Bleh. Anyway, nice comeback win for the Fish-- Cody Ross is the man!
April 18, 200917 yr Erick, expecting Lindstrom to be great right now, even though he had no ST and is coming back from injury, is like asking you to do jumping jacks on the broken femur that you mention every 12 seconds. It's especially funny coming from the head of the "Tucker for Closer" campaign.

Yeah Nunez is good in the 8th inning, he'll be good there for the rest of the year right before Lindstrom comes in the game. Fact is, if Kevin Gregg was doing this ppl would be bashing him. Last year when Gregg pitched hurt, ppl bashed his blown saves. There's a different attitude with Lindstrom just b/c he throws 100. Sorry if I don't see the lovefest for the guy. Maybe it'll happen over time. If you are putting me in Fredi Gonzalez shoes (which you aren't...but whatever this is just an opinion), Leo Nunez would be closing games. He, too, has great velocity on his fastball, and unlike Lindstrom, he has a consistent secondary pitch that can make anyone swing & miss. And by predictable...yes, I'm talking about his pitches. I highly doubt this is Baker's fault, as well. If it is...it's odd that it's not the same with the other pitchers & their use of the breaking ball. You can throw 200, for all I care...if big league hitters know what's coming...they will hit it. Him spotting fastballs against the Nationals 7th & 8th hitters (even though, those were the guys who killed us tonight, but still...) is not going to change my opinion. And my opinion is supported by the facts (statistics). There's nothing in the facts that suggests that Matt Lindstrom is dominant / is capable of dominating, as some believe.
