April 26, 200917 yr None of us really know the back story or clubhouse (workouts, gym, strengthening) conditioning players are going through, or for that matter who's hurting where except sometimes the obvious like Cantu, but I said earlier in the year I thought moving Ramirez to third (instead of the at the time Uggla to third talk) was the smarter move, and now that I've seen the range EB has and his defense overall, I still think it would not have been a bad experiment to play around with. But the Marlins didn't want to breakup the Ramriez/Uggla DP combination which makes sense if you're trying to improve defense. These are choices made and it's unfair to second guess especially when you're working with only hint of what is really going on. Watching last night though, as hard hit as it was, I was amazed Hanley couldn't keep that sharp grounder in the infield. Knock it down, use your body if you have to, not necessarily make the throw, but keep the ball from going into the outfield. We can have the argument (although it's not worth it) about has Hanley "outgrown" the position - I don't know what "too big" is for the position - but in 2010 I would be surprised if he isn't playing a different position in the infield or even in the outfield.
April 26, 200917 yr This is old news that he doesn't play hard. It's also old news, yet welcome news that the Marlins prevented the Mutts from making the playoffs each of the past 2 seasons, as is highlighted in that lovely sig of yours.

Hanley is the best hitting middle infielder in baseball but he doesn't play hard which is pretty obvious every time I watch him. If he played harder, he'd probably be the best player in baseball.

Just cos you usually only appear on here at the first sight of trouble for the Marlins and you attempt to stir things up.

Hanley's good, and he knows he's good, and because of that he doesn't play hard... at all. He's been fairly underwhelming this season in pretty much every area of the game and I believe it deals more with him not trying then him actually being in a slump. He's one of the best in the game, and through almost 20 games, his numbers are fairly pedestrian. Maybe he wants to be traded, I don't know, but his effort, or lack there of is a really glaring issue. I know the Red Sox wanted him back, maybe that's his goal?
April 27, 200917 yr It is still early, if he hit a big home run tomorrow, all of this will be forgotten.
April 27, 200917 yr I like hanley and all but I really believe he doesn't want to be here. I won't be surprised if he's gone before his contract runs out.

Dude, A LOT has changed since the day he signed on the dotted lines.
