Posted May 6, 200916 yr "The Florida Marlins have promoted right-hander Carlos Martinez from Triple-A New Orleans. In 12 appearances for the Zephyrs, Martinez went 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA, six walks and 10 strikeouts in 11 innings. Martinez likely will take starter Graham Taylor's roster spot after tonight's game. With an off day Monday, the Marlins won't need Taylor to pitch again until May 16, and only if Andrew MIller is not ready. Martinez has not pitched in the majors since 2007. He split last season between Double-A Carolina and Triple-A Albuquerque. he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2006" http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseb...to-bullpen.html
May 6, 200916 yr So Miller takes Penn's spot on the roster when he returns, assuming Martinez sticks. Till then we carry eight arms in the pen. That still bodes the question of who's spot does Proctor take when he returns.
May 6, 200916 yr How can the Marlins call him up unless they take someone off of the roster? The way it reads they're implying Martinez has already been promoted.

May 6, 200916 yr Author "Carlos Martinez has been pitching well for Triple-A New Orleans, and it appears the right-hander could be headed to the Marlins. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Martinez will be promoted to the big league club after Wednesday's game with the Braves. The likely choice to go to the Minor Leagues is lefty Graham Taylor, who is set to make his third big league start on Wednesday. Taylor has been filling Andrew Miller's spot in the rotation. Miller, who is recovering from a strained right oblique, threw a rehab assignment game for the Class A Jupiter Hammerheads on Wednesday. Martinez was in big league camp with the Marlins. The hard-throwing right-hander was with the club in 2006, but he experienced elbow problems and underwent Tommy John surgery. For New Orleans, he has appeared in 12 games and thrown 11 innings, striking out 10 and walking six. He has a 4.09 ERA. Another Triple-A reliever who could be part of the Marlins plans this season is Tim Woods." -- Joe Frisaro http://joefrisaro.mlblogs.com/

That still bodes the question of who's spot does Proctor take when he returns. Since Penn is out of options, I'd assume he's sticking around. My guess is that Martinez goes back down when Miller returns. We'll only have two players with options up at that point: Badenhop and Martinez. Since badenhop got the call up before Martinez, we can deduct that the FO has more faith in Badenhop, ergo, K-Mart would be first to be sent down. And his line so far in AAA doesn't exactly inflict confidence: 11 IP, 6 walks!, 2 HRs!, 10 Ks. And he wasn't all too hot last year, finishing with a 4.25 ERA/4.33 FIP. He's been very long ball prone.
