Starting to feel that Hanley doesn't want to be here anymore

Featured Replies

You have to assume that the numbers were explained to him in detail, probably great detail at some point. Has he forgotten? Perhaps. It would probably only take one or two financial illiterates saying "Man, you got screwed! You could have had blah, blah, blah if you had waited. Look at so-and-so, blah, blah, blah."

None of whom would be writing him any checks for the tens of millions he would lose if he suffered a career-impairing or career-ending injury before actully signing some imagined deal.

Or, maybe he's just not very bright. If he's smart, or even just mature enough to be practical, he'll be on his best behavior for the next 5 1/2 years. Not a good idea to be known as a trouble-maker with an attitude when you're trying to get someone to cough up $100 or $200 million guaranteed dollars. Tends to reduce the number of bidders and the amounts offered.

That it doesn't matter?

And in a sense you are right. It dosen't matter on the scoreboard. A brush back or knock down once a game means very little. However, it is an insight to his attitude. Starting to look like Miggy's attitude when he was here. Minus the lackidasical defensive play at this point, because Hanley hasn't shown that. He is showing something else tho. Something more akin to another ex-Marlin in our not so distant past.

I think those of you pressing this theory/opinion are way off base. I think it's more that he just wants the attention. The kind of attention that playing in front of large crowds brings him. Look at how he responds in those circumstances and his comments.

Not sure what theory or opinion you think I'm pressing. My comments were primarily directed at the proposition that he got a fair deal whether he still remembers the details of why that's true or not.

Other than that, he seems to have let it go to his head and seems to be a bit on the immature side for a 25 year-old. Then again, he's spent his whole life immersed in a culture where a hot-foot or a shaving-cream pie in the face is the height of humor, so perhaps attention-whoring by someone who has been a prima donna for about a decade is only to be expected.

For his own good, I hope he loses the attitude. But, like I said before, I ain't gonna hold my breath.

If anyone actually believes Hanley wants to be here they're delusional. He wants to wake up and play for the Marlins about as bad as I wanna wake up go to work, or even worse, wake up in be a garbage man.

I dislike everything about you.

Are we really blaming Hanley's HBPs on his walk-up music?

What is it, by the way?

Lupe Fiasco's hit single "Superstar".

B/c you've talked to him before, right?

No, but he's talked to us, the media, an everyone else who has an internet connection and cares to pay attention to the truth. He began the season with trade demands, and has carried a bad attitude throughout the season. On top of that, his numbers have drastically dropped for reasons unknown to all but himself. He's acting and playing like a man who no longer wishes to be here.

He's also stated many times that he wants to be here. Said it when the team was in Boston. Did you miss that, or do you only hear what you want to hear?

As for his #'s, if you're going by that...then boy, I certainly hope he feels like playing soon! His "down" #'s have him as the best shortstop in baseball...I mean, only Jason Bartlett in his career year, by far, has been better.

Not to mention he DID sign a contract here. Was not obligated to, either.

But hey...you go on assuming.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, but usuing the argument of "Well, he signed a long-term contract here, so he must want to be here" holds very little validity. So what? You think it's impossible that he's having second thoughts about it? People change their minds all the time.

Could be.

I don't see why anyone would assume that, though.

For those who keep bringing up his off the field comments lately...Hanley's always been a bit of a hothead. (yes...since his time in the minors in Boston, too)

He says what he's supposed to say until he gets angry enough to say or act out how he feels. What has continually demanding to be traded ever gotten anybody? Nothing, look at Chad Johnson.

Lol what I want to hear? I don't care where he's at or where he wants to be if he isn't helping us win ball games or doesn't want to be a Marlin.

That may actually have some validity if SS were the only position in baseball. Unfortunately for Hanley, it isn't. BTW, you can add Ben Zobrist to the list of SS that are having better seasons than Hanley. On top of that, he's neck and neck with Derek Jeter. They're ranked 50th, and 51st respectively. BTW, It isn't much to be proclaimed the best SS in baseball when there aren't really any good SS in baseball.

Yeah, because there's no such thing as having second thoughts. Most players that want to be traded originally signed a contract with the team they want to be traded from.

50th and 51st in what?

Hanley's got an 80 point advantage on Jeter in OPS. Dumb. He's the best SS in baseball.

Player rater... http://games.espn.go.com/flb/playerrater?&startIndex=0

And before you go on about how player rater doesn't matter, everybody professional or otherwise goes by this rating system. Everybody.

Not this season he isn't, he's behind two Tampa Bay SS and neck and neck with one from New York. A very old one in the decline of his career from New York actually.

You're using a fantasy baseball stat that takes into account 5 stats to judge the entirety of a player's worth? You dumb. You are honestly the first person I've ever seen use that stat. It's a truly f***ing terrible stat. Honestly. It's so bad.

Zobrist has played all of 53 Innings at SS.

Bartlett has been better, but he's not going to hit .370 all year.

Jeter isn't even close to Hanley right now.

'EVERYBODY PROFESSIONAL' GOES BY A FANTASY BASEBALL RATER THAT HAS JONATHAN BROXTON AS THE 12 MOST VALUABLE PLAYER IN BASEBALL?????

OH MY GOD!

It'd be you're, not your. If you're going to insult someone's intelligence, I'd suggest you'd be grammatically correct in doing so.

You must not watch ESPN ever. That's pretty much all they go by. It's what everyone goes by.

Who cares if you think it's bad? It isn't going to keep anyone from using it.

Which speaks even more for how well he's played. Batting .300, 15 HR, 8 SB, 40 R, and 42 RBI. Looks good to me.

He still may end up batting .320 or somewhere around that number. It's likely that he'll bat very close to what Hanley ends the season batting.

Their numbers are very close actually.

He's 6-0, has 16 saves, 54 K's, a 1.85 era, and a 0.74 whip. Am I missing something here?

If you think a reliever is the 12th most valuable player in baseball, yes you are.

lolwut?

I said "you're". Are you retarded?

Jeter plays in a launching pad, quite literally, and has an OPS almost 80 points below Hanley. It's not even close.

And ESPN is f***ing terrible. Their baseball coverage is absolutely atrocious. Of f***ing course they use a stat of their own devising and of course they pimp it.

So are you implying that K-Rod wasn't one of the most valuable payers in baseball last year because he was a closer/reliever?
