Posted June 15, 200915 yr After yesterday's incident with him complaining about the Marlins not retaliating after getting hit and the few previous incidents like the hair policy incident, it's starting to become apparent that Hanley doesn't want to be here anymore. Hanley is starting to realize how good he really is, and you're starting to see that cocky arrogant side that most superstars possess. It seems like he wants to be in the spotlight and he wants more media attention, and since he can't get it from his everyday play b/c he plays for a small market team that hardly draws any fans, he's finding other ways to grab the spotlight. And lets all be honest here, you, me, Hanley, and every single person in the baseball world knows the Marlins completely ass raped Hanley in that 6 years $70 million contract. If he didn't sign, he would have got a significant pay raise through arbitration and then would have signed with the Yankees for $200 million. But hey, back then, Hanley was "young, naive, and stupid." (sound familiar) It seems like now he's starting to realize his true value and is now trying to do whatever he can to piss the Marlins off so they trade him. I hope I'm wrong, but I've been getting this bad vibe from Hanley all season.
June 15, 200915 yr This "argument", which I've now heard twice, makes me want to smash my own skull in with a brick.
June 15, 200915 yr He's started to get arrogant this season, now he feels that hes to good for this team. Im getting the same feeling as you, I would be happy if I was making 1 million over 6 years he wants to go, fine!, b/c bad attitude takes down the whole team, as the marlins and the marlin fans will survive, were used to the rollercoaster ride.
June 15, 200915 yr I think he deserves some respect in that he goes out there every day and plays through what he says is a lot of pain, when it would be easy for him to take days off, or even get surgery and still receive that big pay slip.
June 15, 200915 yr I don't get that at all it just sounds like general frustration...He is right the entire team needs to protect each other. I didnt get the primma donna part in all this
June 15, 200915 yr The Marlins guaranteed him $70 million dollars when all they could have done is take him to arbitration for $7? $8? million. Your contract argument amazingly fails here. So you think he'd rather have $7 million bucks right now just to be a free agent at the end of 2011? Please. The Marlins stepped up and gave him an excellent contract. He's making more than Wright, Sizemore, Longoria, etc. Hanley is going to open the nicest park in baseball in 2012, has an excellent young SP staff, and the # 2 farm system in the minors. He also lives in South Florida, a place he is not a minority which does matter to hispanic players. He's pretty much in the best situation he can be in. He's just young and frustrated because they aren't 10 over .500. Everything is fine.
June 15, 200915 yr I think him being friends with manny has been a bad influencne on him. I remember when a reporter asked him about the trade rumors we had with bos in the off season that lasted all but a minute or two. He was glad to know teams were interested in him. I do give him credit for playing throught the groing pull he has. As lou said he's probably frustrated. I still think he's pretty imature.

Dont ask me but according to hanley it sitll hurts, i guess not enough to keep him off ss.
June 15, 200915 yr So our best player is upset and the fans turn on him? Hanley is about the only thing we have close to a superstar, plus he basically called out Fredi, who is hated on here. You'd think he'd get a little support.
June 15, 200915 yr I had the Blue Jays feed yesterday on MLB.TV as Rich & Tommy weren't on HD (non-HD feeds on MLB.TV end up in a smallish window) and it was suprising that the commentators were acting as though they'd never heard of Hanley Ramirez. They even had to get a graphic up to show he's leading the NL in hits over the last three years just to confirm he actually had some talent. Mind you, the commentators were also acting as if they'd never heard of the Florida Marlins, so I didn't really take notice of it.

Or because we haven't faced the Blue Jays for 3 years and so they were just informing their fans of how good Hanley has been and giving them some statistics to show this. The Toronto fans will know Hanley is a beast but without hard facts and stats they maybe wouldn't be able to comprehend just how awesome he is.

It really was as though they'd never heard of him. I know it's a long way from Toronto to Miami, and it's a different league, but I would have expected Hanley to have created some resonance.

June 15, 200915 yr This is all bulls***. He may have been upset at the team all of twice so far this season. Just compare that to your own job.
June 15, 200915 yr "[Epstein] didn't want to trade me," Ramirez said. "I got traded when he kind of quit. I would have been in Boston. It happens. Now I'm in Miami and I'm happy to be here. ... It worked out for the Marlins, and [the Red Sox] won the World Series, but what's going to happen in two years or a year and half? I think we're going to have more than one World Series if we keep working." he is fine beleive me and his contract is very good for a guy who had only 67 rbi last year.

You'd think he'd get a little support. So we should automatically agree with Hanley's actions because he called out Fredi? I'm sure most here get annoyed with Fredi regarding some of his managerial decisions such as bull pen or lineup. Most people don't agree with Hanley and therefore it doesn't matter whether or not he called out Fredi.

He probably had some greedy idiotic agent that wanted his commission right away. Hanely had 3 more years left before he would become a free agent. Arbitration would have got him around $8 million a year compared to the $11 million he's making right now. Yeah the contract guarantees security incase of injury or what not, but point is the Marlins got one of the biggest bargains in MLB history b/c Hanley is worth $25 million minimum a year.

If Hanley got ass raped then Longoria got ass raped and then some.... First of all when you are a young player on the rise and you get an opportunity for a long term contract you take it, because who knows what can happens, what if he gets injured and can't play again? He will get his huge pay day if he stays healthy. Hanley knows that and that's why he signed the contract, besides since when is 70 million dollar contract getting ass raped, how many people in the world make that kind of money?
June 15, 200915 yr Wow. Just read the article that's on the official website's front page. At the very end there is a quote from Hanley that says, "And I'm happy to be here." You're all just worrying too damn much. If he didn't want to be here, then he wouldn't have signed the extension last year. He thinks we're going to win a WS in the future with him on the team. CHILL!
