June 28, 200917 yr You asked me to name some. I gave you 8 from this decade. Not so sure what is so ignorant about that.
June 28, 200917 yr First half of '08 we had a player learning the 3B position and everybody complained. First half of '09 we have a player learning the 3B position and everybody is complaining. Now they want another guy at 3B learning the position, has a limited range side to side, and that has never shown anything at this level except he couldn't hit ML pitching in ST. Be careful what you wish for. And Bonifacio can't do it in the regular season... evidenced by his .293 OBP... Bob, I REALLY think you're willfully ignoring how terrible that is... it's inexcusable... you'll retort with some nonsense about how fast he is, or something... but .293 is inexcusable No I won't. That's inexcusable. But he is putting the ball on the ground alot more and moving runners over into scoring position for the 3 and 4 hitters. There is something to be said for not always looking at the stats. So now hit me up with the OPS. A really fair stat to compare for a guy that is being told and taught to just get the ball on the ground. But let's put in a guy that at this level had a .216 OBP, has limited range, and start him at a new position for the second half of the season. From the little I saw of Gaby he wasn't very impressive defensively at 1B or at the plate. But for some reason he will do better at 3B?? Admittedly, it's a small sample size, but it's really all we have to go on. Just becuse he is a hometown boy and played at The U dosen't mean a thing. So now tell me how well he is doing in AAA. Impress me with those stats. Just like last year at this time when you all wanted Cantu hung by the thumbs and have Dallas brought up. Like I said...Be careful what you wish for. Unless, of course, you are looking for someone else to dump all the blame on. I'll keep looking at the positives. You all keep insisting there are none and concentrate on the negatives. Let's see how that works out. Prediction...Gaby gets a Sept call up to see if he can handle the 3B position for next year when Uggla is gone and EB is moved to 2B.
June 28, 200917 yr Be careful what you wish for. This is one of my favorite things ever on this website. Why it's so dumb has already been covered, so I'm not even gonna bother doing that. It's just so bad. The fact that you are still defending Bonifacio like you are is really just incredible. It's hard to take anything he says seriously. I can wake up the next morning after Bonifacio has a horrible game and almost be garunteed to see one of his damage control gems sitting there, flawed argument and all. It's like he never gets tired of being obscenely predictable. It's hard to take anything you guys say seriously. Especially seeing the record of this boards GM abilities of who should stay and who should go. I can wake up the morning after he has a good game and almost be guaranteed to see how everyone says how bad he sucks and he has to go. It's like you guys never get tired of being obscenely predictable. (There is always the other side of the coin.) If anything happens at 3B I think it will be via trade. Gaby isn't the answer. Even short term.
June 28, 200917 yr I wasn't aware you were a fortune teller Bob, with such certainty no less... See, here's the flaw in your argument... Bonifacio can have a good GAME and still suck on the whole... this year, he has sucked... there's no damage control, no rationalization beyond either "He's just not good" or "He's just not ready" in either case, he should not be our starting third baseman. The special treatment Boner has gotten is just ridiculous, Maybin sucks for a while and gets sent down, Bonifacio is by all (if not just plain most) means the worst third baseman in baseball and yet guys like you make excuses, because at this point, that's all they are. He does terrible at the leadoff spot and what is the remedy? Moving him to the 2 spot... give me a break. He has played in 68 games over the course of 3 months, and every split imaginable is bad... at best... March/April: .269/.306/.344 May: .235/.279/.277 June: .241/.302/.266 Vs LHP: .295/.304/.346 Vs RHP: .223/.284/.265 Home: .269/.322/.327 Away: .222/.261/.259 Leading off an inning: .227/.292/.258 Your consistent excuse is that he's "looking better" Well, in April, he was looking better and had a crappy May, in May you saw improvement and he had a just as mediocre June In 15 games batting second, he's still been a solidly below average player. Please, defend him more.

Bob... he's batting sub .230 on balls hit on the ground... please don't tell me you're excusing his nonsense by saying "It's ok... he makes an out and moves guys over" He's not doing well at anything a major league hitter should be doing. For all you knock Gaby, scouts are much higher on Gaby's ML potential than Boner's... Minor League stats are much higher on Gaby's ML potential than Boner... if that means moving Cantu back to 3B and Gaby to 1B (where he's supposed to be an excellent 1B according to scouts and won an award for as much, but apparently you're more knowledgeable than those mentioned) fine. Bringing Gaby up to replace Bonifacio doesn't mean Gaby plays 3B... Bob... also... WTF are you talking about with a .216 OBP Gaby Sanchez clearly went 3/8 (lol small sample size) and... you know, that's apparently a .375 OBP

Even short term. Why is it hard to take anything I say seriously? I generally try not to use arguments that involve using one bad game from a player to justify everything horrible that another player has done. I also try to avoid blindly defending one of the worst players in baseball with arguments like "Well Hermida went 0-fer" and such timeless classics as "Obviously you can't see what I see". And who can forget "well he's working hard". This board's GM abilities have very little to do with anything. Bonifacio is horrible one way or another. Also, you considered a game in which he nearly grounded into two bases loaded inning-ending double plays a "good game". So I wouldn't be surprised if several of his "good games" happen to be greeted with suggestions that he sucks from your point of view. You tried to flip this one over and failed miserably. But atleast you responded this time so we're making progress. Though it's more likely that we're not.
June 28, 200917 yr Bonifacio has actually hit .286 this week. He's laying off high fast balls and drawing more walks and looks a lot better on the base, so it's disingenious to say he's not improving. However, I can understand many people's frustrations at why he is getting this luxury at improving at the Major League level when he should be at AAA. But if the front office sees him as an every day player then he's gonna get to play every day no matter how many bandwagon-jumpers throw their teddies out of their prams on here. I don't see Sanchez as an upgrade at 3B. If we need to upgrade at 3B (and of course numerous upgrades are available) then perhaps we should do it properly rather than mix and match with someone from AAA. Maybe trade Anibal Sanchez? Coghlan ought to have some time at 3B. He's proven he can lead-off (whereas Bonifacio proved he couldn't). Couple this will Carroll at RF and Hermida moved back to LF. What I don't want to see is Ross moved out of CF as he owns it all there.
June 28, 200917 yr Sanchez' batting average continues to plummet and with it his OBP. His BA now stands at .299. He's hitting *.233* over the last ten days (the period used by MiLB to give a snapshot of a player), quick math says his OBP for the period is about fifty points higher and well under .300. All players have a rough patch and hopefully he gets back into a groove because I suspect the reason he hasn't been called upon by the Marlins is managerial and scouting reports about his recent woes. They aren't going to bring him up when he's running cold, they'll wait until he gets back on track and shows he's hitting well enough to contribute when called up.
June 28, 200917 yr Well, they brought up Sean West despite his lackluster minor league numbers this year.
June 28, 200917 yr Bob... also... WTF are you talking about with a .216 OBP Gaby Sanchez clearly went 3/8 (lol small sample size) and... you know, that's apparently a .375 OBP He's talking about... I don't even want to say it... It's so dumb... Oh god... Here it is... Are you ready for it? I don't think you are...

We all know that Gaby can hit though, he has proved it many times throughout his minor league career. That doesn't mean that he has a bat that could be anything more than average in the majors on a good day, but whether or not he's had a rough ten days doesn't men he couldn't easily out-hit Bonifacio. I've always thought that Gaby had a very weak bat for the 1B position and wasn't thrilled that he was projected to be the starter there in the offseason, but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't be able to provide an upgrade to Bonifacio, at least offensively.
June 28, 200917 yr Hey, Hermida is slugging over .500 in that pic. That means that this year is gonna be his breakout year.

That wasn't my point at all. Just that common sense would suggest they would bring him up when he gets back to hitting rather than when he's slumping.

Well to compound that, Bonifacio is actually playing quite well. He's hitting the ball on the ground and actually stealing bases again. He's actually been one of our most productive offensive players over the past week, when you factor in his SB's leading to runs scored.
