June 30, 200917 yr I heard recently that Derek Jeter has more hits at age 35 than Pete Rose did. This begs the question: Will Derek Jeter break Pete Rose's All-Time Hits record?
June 30, 200917 yr No, because Jeter won't manage the Yankees, forcing himself into the lineup past his usefulness as a player...
June 30, 200917 yr Author No, because Jeter won't manage the Yankees, forcing himself into the lineup past his usefulness as a player... We already discussed this on facebook. Rose was not a great player towards the end, but he was useful enough to be in a major league lineup. It's not like he put up 2009 Maybin numbers.
July 1, 200917 yr I don't think so. Rose was a starter until he was 42 years old, and I think Jeter only has a couple more starting-caliber years left in him.
July 1, 200917 yr Author He could only if he switches position in the near future. 3B? 2B? Possibly DH. That would make the most sense. Takes his mind off of fielding and he can focus 100% on hitting. Also eliminates the physical demand of being a fielder.
July 1, 200917 yr Author lol. It's just funny thinking about Jeter playing 1B :lol Although, they do have Teixeira locked up for quite some time, so I don't know
July 1, 200917 yr Well, the entire premise is wrong. He's on pace to finish this season, his 35 year old season, with 2727 hits. Rose finished his 35 year old season with 2762. Now, if you go to the point in the season where they turned 35, that's kinda unfair since Jeter's birthday is at the end of May and Rose's was 4 games into the season. Also, I don't think there's a chance Jeter plays regularly for another 8-10 years.

But the difference is not that big anyway, so let's continue the discussion
July 2, 200917 yr He could probably get to 3,500 easily. If he plays til he's 40 and gets 175 hits a season he'll reach the 3500 mark but 4000 is going to be pretty impossible. If he's going to reach 4000 he needs at least 190 hits per season(counting on he reaches at least 200 hits this season) and has to play til he's 42 which i don't see him doing.
July 3, 200917 yr Also, I don't think there's a chance Jeter plays regularly for another 8-10 years. I don't think that Jeter would sign with another team after he is no longer useful in New York. I think that he wants to retire as a Yankee. I don't see him doing something like Babe Ruth retiring after playing with the Boston Braves. I just don't see him as a 42 year old DH in Kansas City.
July 3, 200917 yr who cares? Ichiro will break it unofficially, and everyone will have a hard time arguing he's not the legit hits king. Furthermore if ichiro can play until he's 50, he might just break it officially. Ichiro is a God. At 35 he's having a career year.
July 3, 200917 yr I really wouldn't be surprised if ichiro could average 200 hits for the next 12 years, which would break the record.
July 4, 200917 yr I really wouldn't be surprised if ichiro could average 200 hits for the next 12 years, which would break the record. Same. He's just reached 1900 this season and is on pace to have 230 hits this season which is amazing and should bring him to 2000. He could reach 3000 easily if he plays til he's 40 but he could probably play til he's 45 and still average 190 hits. He has the best chances to reach 4000 if he wants to keep playing.
