November 11, 200322 yr Before this thread degenerates any further, I remember reading when he came to his first training camp with the Rangers, and he was still carrying some baby fat, hence the nickname Pudge. So, it's pretty much what others have said on this thread.

November 11, 200322 yr I never really thought about how they came up with the name, I just thought they called him that because he has a pudgy face lol I could never see him not called Pudge..it flows...Pudge Rodriguez. When I hear Ivan Rodriguez, it's weird because people rarely say it.

November 11, 200322 yr Another fun Pudge story. Some folks may know this one though. When Pudge used to play baseball in Puerto Rico, he was a pitcher. But he was just so good.....he was too good.....that he would ALWAYS strike everyone out. One day, his coach got tired of it and made him catcher because he said that if he kept Pudge pitching, no one would have a chance to play ball. LOL
