Posted August 13, 200915 yr does anyone else feel like the game has been cheapen a little with all the advertising ? especially on the outfield wall. I believe there shouldnt be any advertising anywhere where the ball is in play. obviously the outfield wall is in play . colorado does it best they put all the advertising just beyond the outfield wall and their outfield wall is clear of advertising. I just think it looks better that way , I wish marlins new park would do this.

I believe that the reason the Marlins have ads on the Land Shark wall is that it is one of the few areas where they can actually sell advertising and collect the revenue. If I'm not mistaken, the rest of the stadium advertising is controlled by the stadium/Dolphins.

I hope we never become like european soccer where they advertise even on the uniforms , thats just awful.
August 13, 200915 yr I have no problem with OF advertising. Ads = more revenue. More revenue = better for the team.

You are seeing it already with NFL practice uniforms. It's a form of revenue that teams and leagues just can't ignore. My guess is that the NHL is the first to do it.

August 14, 200915 yr lol Reminds me of a day that they were talking on the Lebatard show. About paying a Marlins player to shave a logo onto their beard for a game. They said that Bonifacio would probably do it. lol

I still think the rockies make revenue. im pretty sure they make just as much as anyone else I didn't say they didn't. But they'd make more if they sold ads. Why do you think people have ad space?

Very true I mean even my high school has new ads every year on both the outfield walls for baseball and on the fences around the football field.

Why do you think people have ad space? they do sell ads look beyond right centerfield. they just dont put it anywhere where the ball is in play. wrigley doesnt have any ads ... maybe thats part of why its so awesome their they didnt cheapen the look over all the years. imagine some ads in between the ivy Im all for the marlins making more money with ads just put it away from the field
August 14, 200915 yr Wrigley used to have Under Armour logos on the OF walls I believe...maybe they still do.

Like 3 years late on that boat.
August 15, 200915 yr Don't see much difference between ads on the OF walls and those ads behind home plate that switch. Is there any team that dosen't have those?
August 15, 200915 yr How have I not mentioned this yet? I say ads on the OF wall can not have cheapened the game. Why, you ask? Because there have been ads on OF walls FOREVER. The Polo Grounds had ads out there. Ebbets Field, thought of as one of the greatest ballparks to ever exist, had tons of ads out there And look at this one: See that ad in the OF wall? What stadium is this, you ask? Well, it's The House That Ruth Built. That's the home of the 1927 New York Yankees, Murderer's Row, the greatest baseball team that ever lived. So, in closing, this hasn't come from a cheapening of baseball. This has been part of the game forever.
August 22, 200915 yr Someone beat me too it. In some stadiums years ago the outfield advertising signage was two panels high. Advertising and baseball have gone together for a long long time.
August 25, 200915 yr Someone beat me too it. In some stadiums years ago the outfield advertising signage was two panels high. Advertising and baseball have gone together for a long long time. Like the OF at Ebbets. It's legendary and just wouldn't have been the same without Schaefer Beer.
August 27, 200915 yr Author I just think that there all plenty of places around the stadium to put advertising , No need for to be on the outfield wall , I think it takes away from the prestige of the game . I dont ever want to see us become like european soccer where the advertising is just ridiculous.

I dont ever want to see us become like european soccer where the advertising is just ridiculous. Like I said, it can't take away from the prestige of the game, it's part of the game. If it takes away prestige from the game than that ship sailed a century ago. Yankee Stadium was the cathedral of the game and it had advertisements out there. I'm sorry but I think you really missed your mark here.
August 28, 200915 yr Author you can say whatever you want and feel however you want but i still see it as selling out and its only getting worse. And yes it does take away from the prestige of the game. Btw using yankee stadium doesnt help your side of the argument. yankee stadium uses more advertising than any other team in baseball and to top it off it is not one of my favorite parks to begin with. yankee stadium is not even in my top five best looking parks. plenty of parks that i rather go to then yankee stadium 1 san franisco - at&t - probably best atmosphere in baseball ( right on the bay thats sweet ) 2 texas - rangers park is like freaking a baseball castle. just amazing (i dont like the building in center though) 3 pittsburgh - pnc - great view 4 stlouis - beautiful park all around 5 chicago - wrigley - prestige yankee stadium has the history but in terms of looks. their outfield is coverd in advertising .
