Rick Vanden Hurk has been sent to AAA, according to rotoworld. Although he hasn't been impressive as of late it's a little surprising, but maybe we will see Anibal up here in no time.

Im guessing this is because Gaby has been called up. When is the Hopper supposed to be back?

He wasn't great but did an alright job. The fact he had a few big strikeout games gives some hope that he can be useful at some point.

Why Gaby? Where's Anibal?

Anibal's going to start the Atlanta series on Saturday. And the recalling of Gaby probably means that Nick Johnson may miss a week or more.

How many at some points does this guy get? This is his third year of being shipped back and forth between the majors and minors. He did look pretty nice in some starts this year but he hasn't really shown that he is every going to be a reasonably consistent starter in the majors.

Hasn't really had much of a chance has he?

Where have you been? He's had multiple chances the last 2 years

And he wasn't ready. I wouldn't really consider those chances but rather the need to fill a spot with a warm body.

This was the first year he had any real experience and success in the upper minor leagues before coming to play. I'd really consider this more his "rookie year" all things considered. And he performed rather decently. He wasn't getting shelled (19% LD rate), he showed very improved control to the point of being near league average (3.69 BB/9), while still showing a great ability to miss bats (9.38 K/9). Yeah, the home runs were bad and were ultimately his problem, but he showed a lot of good things in his time up here.

However, he'll likely be a reliever in the future due to his inability to go deep into games. I don't know if it's a case of lack of endurance, or a case of high pitch counts, but he only averages barely over 5 IP per start in his milb career.

He had the chance last year in the beginning if the year as the #2 starter

and he was only there because of injuries. I also fail to see how him starting in the majors last year counters the fact that only now does he have experience and sustained success in the upper minors. His last stint in the major leagues was nearly two seasons worth of games ago.

Precisely, The Marlins haven't really ever committed to RVH ...I do agree the bullpen might be where he make his stake

Because he has never performed well enough to earn aspot in the rotation. You can't commit to someone who isn't/hasn't performed

This may be shocking news to you but RVH has pitched fairly well...no not Cy Young calibre but he has pitched as he belongs in this level. RVH has great stuff and if the Marlins wanted to put him out there every 5th day he would probably pitch very well most of the time. His problem has been that he doesnt go deep into the game. That with experience should improve but it seems that he will need to get his experience in the minors at this time...at least for now. If the Marlins were 10 games below .500 the story might be entirely different

he was the 2nd starter heading into last year. He's had a couple choices, he blew them
