February 1, 201016 yr seems like the most logical choice left out there. coming off an injury so he should be inexpensive . seems like a cheap option for left handed power off the bench. i think he would really solidify the bench. any thoughts? im pretty sure hes still on the market.
February 1, 201016 yr He's still a free agent. Not much left in the free agent market as far as a lefty swinging bench bat. Tony Clark, Dmitri Young, Brian Giles, Darin Erstad, Greg Norton and Dave Dellucci are other ones. None of them standout so Jenkins would make sense. I wish the Marlins would get bold and try to add a 1B as Ryan Garko just signed with the Mariners for 500K with another 500K in incentives. There are good deals to be had if the Marlins quit sitting on their wallet.

Are the Marlins a better team for today because they gave him that contract? Nope.
February 1, 201016 yr I like the signing of Johnson for the future. But, the Marlins have done nothing to help the team on the field in 2010.

Are the Marlins a better team for today because they gave him that contract? Nope. Actually I would say they are. When initial negotiations broke down there was a lot of speculation that we would just trade JJ in the offseason to maximise the return got from him now, on the back of such a good 2009. Marlins with JJ >>>>>> Marlins without JJ = Marlins are a better team because of the contract.
February 1, 201016 yr I like the signing of Johnson for the future. But, the Marlins have done nothing to help the team on the field in 2010. The 2010 season is still in the future. So are you trying to say you don't like JJ in 2010, but you do in 2011 and beyond?
February 1, 201016 yr I like the signing of Johnson for the future. But, the Marlins have done nothing to help the team on the field in 2010. They've increased payroll almost 25% in order to retain most of last year's team.
February 1, 201016 yr Johnson was under contract for 2010 already. If you think it's like the Phillies who added the best pitcher around in Roy Halladay then I guess you are right. What new players have the Marlins brought in on a major league contract who will make a impact in 2010? No one. Like I said before I do like the signing of Johnson as it sends the right message to both the fans and the rest of the players on the Marlins. But, it is not enough to beat the Phillies.
February 1, 201016 yr THEY ARE INCREASING PAYROLL BY LIKE 10 MILLION FROM LAST YEAR So it only counts if you increasing payroll and bring in guys, rather than keeping your expensive players? This is dumb.
February 1, 201016 yr This doesn't relate to Geoff Jenkins or a lefty bat off the bench but how about the Marlins going after Joe Crede? He can fill in at 3rd with great defense and average offensive ability which moves Cantu to 1st where he fields better and then keep Morrison down in the minors for a while longer so we don't rush him and we can call him up any time we feel he's ready. This also adds Gaby Sanchez to the bench.
February 1, 201016 yr And they still have a lot of holes to fill which can be done cheaply. But your whole point was that they are sitting on their wallet. If they were truly sitting on the wallet, they would have left payroll where it was last year and gotten rid of Nolasco and Uggla and the team would have been significantly worse. God damnit, you keep doing this. You make one assertion, get completely proven wrong and then just keeping changing what you are saying. There was also talk they were going after Frank Catalanotto and Rick Ankiel, so it's not that they aren't trying to improve. You're talking out of your ass.
February 1, 201016 yr endy chavez would be pretty good if he is fully healthy. also we could trade for someone like travis buck since the A's have a crowded outfield. also the A's might pay most of willy taveras' salary since they are DFA'ing him so he could be another option
February 1, 201016 yr That is what I'm saying. There are cheap players out there that will make the Marlins better for 2010. I'm not saying they should break the bank but at least bring in some help where it is needed. I like the idea of bringing in a guy like Crede. He would tighten up the defense and give the Marlins another power bat from the right side. I also like the idea of a Branyan or Blalock for 1B. Of course, if you sign Crede you wouldn't need Branyan or Blalock.

Of course, if you sign Crede you wouldn't need Branyan or Blalock. Crede is way more realistic in my opinion. Branyon and Blalock could happen but for contract purposes(both money and years) they won't be the fit we're lucking for. Crede almost signed a 1 year 2.5MM deal with the Twins but felt he wouldn't fit in with a young Danny Valencia making his way up behind him. It might be the same deal here but at least with Florida he has a solid 2 or 3 months before Morrison could be called up.
February 1, 201016 yr Like who? And are they offering more than the minimum. Kevin Gregg, Kiko Calero. Once again, your original statement has been proven wrong, so you're just bringing up something else now. Btw, you brought up the Phillies bringing in Halladay, yet ignored the fact that they got of rid of Lee.
February 1, 201016 yr Like who? And are they offering more than the minimum. Kevin Gregg Frank Catalanotto Rick Ankiel Those are the guys off the top of my head that the Marlins are supposed to have made offers to. They have apparently expressed interest in a bunch of other relievers, and there's still people expecting them to look at Branyan. They've also added: Derrick Turnbow Jose Veras Jorge Jimenez for low costs.
