March 10, 201016 yr Guy isn't the most highly touted prospect in the world and for good reason (no speed, no arm) but he's flown through the minors in just two years and is coming off of a .297/.368/.413 49 RBI year in AA in which he hit LHP and RHP at very similar clips (ironically, he was actually a little better vs LHP). He also had the second highest BA in the AFL and he's off to a good start in ST. With Stanton due up next year to fill a spot in an already overcrowded OF, why not give this guy, who pretty much has no real future with us, a chance provided he beats out Mike Lamb (which shouldn't be too hard to do)? If nothing else, we could use him as trade bait.
March 10, 201016 yr Cody's time with the organization is probably ending soon and there's still the chance CC is moved back to the IF after Uggla is gone because our only in house option for 2b now is Bonifacio. That means that there's potentially two open OF spots next season and/or the year after. Stanton likely claims one. If the second is made available, Scott Cousins and Bryan Petersen are likely at the top of the list. Therefore, it's likely better to have Petersen in NOLA next season to further develop his abilities to see if he can become a regular MLB player rather than regulating his future to being a 4th OFer.
March 11, 201016 yr Petersen has been impressive with his bat, but unless he can improve his defensive skills, he's not a good choice for a starter. Maybe okay off the bench.

With all the Stanton hype, everybody forgets about Maybin. I surely hope he is here and succeeding in a year...

March 11, 201016 yr Yeah, next season we're going with Coghlan, Maybin, and Cody. No Cody and possibly no Coghlan = Maybin and potentially two open spots. Cody's time with the organization is probably ending soon and there's still the chance CC is moved back to the IF after Uggla is gone because our only in house option for 2b now is Bonifacio. I'd expect a new acquisition before we gave a spot to Cousins or Petersen. Are they likely to become regulars? No, as of they're their expected destination is as our back up OFers for 6 years (Though we probably get rid of one and get someone else/keep BC, so that we can have one righty and one lefty). But the chance of them becoming good regulars is not minuscule. For both, it mostly comes down to power. Cousins needs to grow into about a .200 ISO player to make up for his bad BB/K, whereas Pete only needs to put up about average power/.150 ISO. This would not make them stars but would put them at around Cody Ross, real solid regulars. Petersen has been impressive with his bat, but unless he can improve his defensive skills, he's not a good choice for a starter. Maybe okay off the bench. Both the scouting reports and his minor league defensive numbers say that Petersen is a slightly above average defensive corner OFer that can fake CF in a pinch but shouldn't start there. I mean, his defense improving would still make him a more valuable player, but him becoming a starter more hinges on his bat improving.
March 11, 201016 yr He could do in a pinch, hard to say who's more Show ready him or Cousins. Also there's a chance they could get Raynor back if he doesn't stick with Pitts.
March 11, 201016 yr The team seems to be higher on Jai Miller right now. And everytime I read something from "those in the know", the team is still projecting Boni as our future 2B. This year should tell an interesting story.
