National League Projected Offenses

By Tim Dierkes [March 31, 2010 at 12:27pm CST] I just finished up my Offseason In Review series at MLB Trade Rumors, and it involved projecting the offenses for all teams using CHONE projections and the Baseball Musings lineup analysis tool. The National League results in runs per game:

  • Rockies - 4.907
  • Phillies - 4.871
  • Marlins - 4.845
  • Braves - 4.844
  • Cardinals - 4.832
  • Dodgers - 4.784
  • Brewers - 4.751
  • Mets - 4.738
  • D'Backs - 4.702
  • Cubs - 4.688
  • Reds - 4.552
  • Pirates - 4.550
  • Nationals - 4.368
  • Giants - 4.282
  • Astros - 4.202
  • Padres - 4.149

The extremes will probably hold up, but tons of variables will change these rankings around in reality.

Just another confirmation of what many of us think; our offense will produce, and the big question mark is the question, namely #3-#5 SP.

And closer.

I'm optimistic about our starting pitching. I'm expecting it to be better than last year's; enough to make these 'experts' give us a shot at the post-season by the All-Star Break.

If we do end up having the third best offense, then if we pitch like last season we should be on the brink of making a post-season bid. If we can improve our pitching slightly (rank 8th or 9th), then we make the playoffs.

I dont know why anybody even looks at these seriously, but its nice to see us not be predicted to suck at most things like most years.

Yeah, that's not particularly surprising.

interesting that 3 NL East teams are in the Top 4
