Don't forget Longoria's option years which make it a 9 year contract for about 44 million. That's the best contract ever. He's practically already earned it. Don't also forget Grady 7 years for around $32 (included option) and Dan Haren renegotiated his first real contract which changed the terms, but it's about 8 years and $63 million right now (included option). Hanley's is really good, and it's very arguable he is more valuable as a SS than 3B, CF, or SP making the money terms more beneficial, but those other deals are with superstars as well and are drastically reduced in an annual price. That Longoria contract, is maddening.

April 4, 201016 yr You can only tell this after the contract is up. And that goes for everyone. As it stands right now it's one of the biggest value per dollar contracts in the MLB. It should stay that way as well until its finish.

Hanley and Longoria's contracts are both awesome for their clubs so far... agree with you that you can't judge either until the contract is up... but so far all signs point to these being steals for the Fish/Rays organizations Considering neither has a super max contract like the one mauer signed this past spring and both Hanley/Evan put up super star stats like mauer, those two contracts are great for the club's owners.
April 5, 201016 yr Zack Greinke's is a steal: 4 years, $38 mil. The Royals played that one beautifully, signing him the year before he won the CY. FWIW, PECOTA is projecting him to finish second in MLB in Ks this year, too.
April 6, 201016 yr I mean to get paid $70 million in guaranteed money, who wouldn't take it?? Especially if you're a young player that has nothing and probably came from a poor family in the Dominican Republic. It is definitely a steal for the Marlins, but to get that security at such a young age is a blessing in itself and was well worth it for both parties.
April 6, 201016 yr Hanley was pretty well off in the DR, from what I understand. Yeah I remember reading somewhere that he actually grew up in a pretty good neighborhood and wasn't as poor as some of the other dominican players that are in the bigs.
