Florida will wait on any Lee deal

Featured Replies

First off it appears Florida will wait till Sexson is moved and get those teams that lost out in a bidding war.

Second Florida wants to lock up Castillo so it won't have to ask for a 2B in return.

Third it appears the deal Florida wants out of the O's is LHP Matt Riley, LHP BJ Ryan and one of the two pitchers it trade back in Aug. They prefer Ryan over any of the middle infielders the O's are offering. That's why lock-up Castillo is so important. Its believe he holds the key to any other move the Marlins will make. Once he signs there will probable be a chain reaction of events. Also the Marlins want the Dodgers to get into this bidding war. Mota is the guy they are looking at NOT ODALIS PEREZ(too much $$$$)! Edwin Jackson will NOT be moved by the Dodgers but Greg Miller could be a name to look for, if the Dodgers are pressure to.

so no Edwin Jackson? oh well... i can understand that

Mota and Miller?.... hmmmm

Greg Miller P, L/L 6ft5 190 lbs. 18 years old (A, Vero Beach) -- The Dodgers' supplemental first-round pick in the 2002 draft, Miller is one of the most polished pitchers coming out of high school in recent memory. He grew up an Atlanta Braves fan and considers Barry Zito his pitching role model (so much that he has taken up yoga to help relax like Zito on the mound), and his influences are quite evident in the way he pitches. Though his fastball can occasionally creep into the low 90's, like so many of the Braves top pitchers, it is his excellent curveball and ability to hit his spots that makes him a strikeout threat. Miller pitched well enough in the Rookie-Level Pioneer League last year, going 3-2 with a 2.37 ERA and struckout 37 batters in his first 38 pro innings for Great Falls, that the Dodgers decided to challenge him in High-A ball to start 2003. Miller has more than rose to the occasion, through 94 innings at Vero Beach he is 9-3 with a 2.85 ERA and 93 strikeouts. A tall lefty who doesn't try to throw too hard and has a fluid delivery that shouldn't put too much strain on his pitching arm, Miller can be expected to make a quick and most likely injury-free progression through the Minor Leagues. Only the Dodgers' pitching depth ahead of him can slow Miller down, but expect him to make it to LA in September of 2005, and to top out as a top-to-middle of the rotation mainstay.

i seriously think the marlins will keep pudge, castillo, lowell, and lee in 2004. Admin will find a way, i can feel it.

I hope not Cape. I like all these guys, but we actually could benefit more by dealing some of those guys. You have to keep Lowell. Pudge would be very nice, but I could live without. Castillo I am not convinced will be the same runner he once was and Lee, as much as he has improved his power numbers and his GG is great, I think is the most expendable. We can trade him and get heaps of talent in return. Same with Encarnacion and Redman.

Of the O's deal, I like Riley a lot. Ryan would be a great pick up for our pen. Include Bautista and you have a pretty good deal. But the deal with the Dodgers would be nice too, but unlikely at this point. I think it is smart for the Marlins to wait on dealing Lee until after the Sexson sweeps. Personally, I would take Lee over Sexson.

I think Baltimore other lefty specialist John Parrish is better and we should get him instead of Ryan.

*LHP BJ Ryan will be 28 in December and has pitched for both Cincy and Baltimore. Solid ML career thus far and had a breakout season in 2003 (in a hitters park btw) In 50IP he had 63K, 27BB, 1HR(very impressive), and 42H....he earned 762,500.00

last season

*LHP Matt Riley (24yrs old) spent time with three different levels in 2003 starting with double-A Bowie....72IP, 73K, 22BB, 56H, 4HR.....Riley was then promoted to triple-A where he posted nearly identical numbers and was again promoted to the big club where he started 2 games....10IP, 7H, 1HR, 8K, 5BB.

Can anyone find anything on how Levinski or Bautista did after they were traded?

They could jsut give us Adam Loewen and one other and its a deal! :lol

Heres some info on the players from the Dodgers being brought up (Edwin Jackson in our dreams, Greg Miller, and Mota)

*LHP Greg Miller (18yrs old) single-A FSL...115.2IP, 103H, 5HR, 111K, 41BB...he was promoted late in the minor league season to Jacksonville of the Southern League where he put up these numbers in 4 starts...26.2IP, 15H, 1HR, 40K, 7BB...this guy is a major stud and would probably go by himself along with a lesser pitching prospect.

*RHP G Mota made $675,000 and turns 31 years old in July. He threw 105IP, 99K, 26BB, 78H, 7HR....his age might make him the lesser player going with Miller.

Thanks for the info Ed...

omg, if we get Mota or BJ Ryan it'll be very good, since we need Bullpen help badly. I hope we can get one of the two. Ryan is a lefty ( i think), he will be our Lefty Specialist in place of Almanza.

im down

I would love the Lee for Ryan/Riley and Levinski or Bautista deal.

As for their stats after the trade...I'm not sure they actually pitched, because they were acquired on August 31st, and most A or AA leagues were about over then.

no it isnt.. cuz if you dont post the era for almanza he will look very good.

He is pretty good...and one of my predictions for 04' is that he will show that barring injury. I'll try and post the more media friendly and mainstream stats from now on, but those I posted (especially K and BB) ignore how good the defense the pitcher had which is very important.

I would love the Lee for Ryan/Riley and Levinski or Bautista deal.

Your most likely correct. I'm somewhat torn on which club to trade with. If we can get Bautista back along with Ryan/Riley then go for that one, but if its Levinksi and those 2 I'm more interested in the Dodgers offer.

I believe Dodgers are looking to trim payroll, so they wont make a deal for Lee I am afraid. But you never know.

I think the point of this thread, and it is a good one, that the Marlins will wait on trading Lee until the 2B situation is settled. If we re-sign Castillo, then Lee will be shipped, but if not, we will have to get a 2B included. Truthfully, I dont think we are going to afford Lowell, Pudge and Castillo if, and this is a big IF, we intend to land Vlad. Unless Loria strikes it rich somehow...another reason not to believe Vlad is on his way here. But maybe a deferred contract...eventhough the Marlins have stated they arent doing that.

If anything happens, I am afraid it wont be until after Dec. 7th because that is when you dont have to give up compensation for a free agent (I believe...). We should sign our FA's before then, but not sign any FA's until after. Which may mean we miss out on someone...

edcanes,

do you mind if i ask you how you get ahold of information? it's interesting to read, but i'm not sure if you're just hypothesizing/reading from articles, or if you actually hear things first-hand from the FO.

I think the marlins should wait to make a deal and see what happens with castillo and sexson.

Mota sounds interesting but I didnt know he was 31.

Yes I also wonder where edcanes gets his info from. If its from articles i agree that he should post links to them.

I've noticed that 9 out of 10 times edcanes is right with all his info, edcanes you are the man!

The Dodgers might be eliminated as a trading partner...The White Sox are offering Lee, Valentin for Perez, Izturis. Are the White Sox cutting payroll or what?
