Jose Guillen

I know you guys think how much better he is than Enky, but do we seriously know he isn't a bust? Lets not forget Enky was a Reds bust too.

Enc was a Great Player while with the reds...

Was a good player? I think you need serious power to play here in Pro Player. Enky isn't a basehit type player like Castillo, so he doesn't do well when he hits with power.

Is Guillen a homer-run hitter or base-hit type player?

Career Averages Based on 162 Games Played

Enc - Guillen

H/AB (Avg): 166/615 (.270) - 148/548 (.270)

HR: 21 - 18

RBI: 87 - 76

2B: 31 - 28

3B: 8 - 3

BB: 35 - 26

SO: 115 - 102

R: 82 - 68

OBP: .313 - .315

SLG: .445 - .430

They're both the same age (Enc is 2 months older). Basically, in a lot of ways, they're the same player. Enc has more speed, Guillen has a better arm. The one thing you can say is that Guillen's best season blows anything Enc has ever done away. Jose hit .311 this year with 31 bombs, Enc's career highs are .289 and 24 (in '00 and '02 respectively). Encs numbers above look a little better, but he does have 67 ABs more than Guillen up there, which narrows the gaps a bit.

But, the key here is that Guillen would be cheaper. We wouldn't have to go through the arbitration process with him. Guillen hit .337 off NL pitching this year, it's hard to say what his final numbers would be if he didn't have to switch leagues, but they'd probably be at least a bit better.

Enc has played at about the same level for his whole career, Guillen has shown signs of major improvement and his numbers were never THAT bad. His first 2 years in Pittsburgh are actually very solid, then he got stuck in situations where he didn't play consistently.

I wouldn't pay either of these guys more than 3.5 million a year. If we can get Jose for that, get him. We can't keep Enc for that.

If you compare Guillen and Enc based on just last season, Guillen is MUCH better offensively even park adjusted, especially if you consider Enc had 116 more ABs. If the media can be trusted (umm, no) it seems Guillen would come at a cheaper price tag than Enc probably because he hasn't had the consistency. That said I would only take a chance on him if he came cheaply. I really can't understand everyone's infatuation with Enc as he had a terrible season in comparison with other players at his position and would cost 5mil+

Guillen started 2002 season with the Diamondbacks, but he was too inconsistent and was released about halfway thru the season. He's an alright pinch-hitter, but he sputters everytime you try to put him in the everyday lineup. I would pass on him if it was me.

Uhhhh...did you just completely miss his year this year?

He hit .311 with 31 homers and a .569 slugging percentage.

In fact, over his career, it's the other way around. He's good when he plays every day and struggles as a pinch hitter.

I dont think the Florida Marlins should sign Jose Guillen, instead of going after " big names " they should get some arms for the bullpen and leave the everyday players like they are.

hey idiot

isnt your name supposed to be Peter GammonS?

If you cant get Vlad, get Guillen. Enc is as good as gone, I feel. He had his chance to show up, never did. He got lots of RBI, but we should look at his opportunities to properly evaluate him.

Whoa!! This Guillen kid is better than I thought. I didn't know he was younger than Enc.

:w00t

I hope he isn't a bust if he joins the Marlins. I wouldn't mind him being a bust for the Braves. :p

Even if he is a "bust" he couldn't really put up worse numbers then Enc and he would "fail" at a much cheaper price. Nobody can be sure what he will make though.

isnt your name supposed to be Peter GammonS? There was one named "Peter Gammons" before, so he couldn't make one with the extra 's'.

You cannot say that guillen is a bust just yet because many people have hit their prime at 27 years old i.e jason giambi and last year he played at a hitters park but actually did better on the road. Also he hit a combined 314avg last year wit RISP. He is a player that the marlins should hope to sign.

I think the marlins should try and go after Guillen or Sanders they cant afford to keep Encarncion.

NO ON REGGIE SANDERS!! Geez, that guy is 100, I dont want him on my roster. I would rather give a young guy a chance at the fraction of the cost. There are plenty of alternatives - Guillen being one of them. I would love to get Guillen, as I have attested before, but I think that we may be going for bigger fish at this point - call me crazy.

Geez... First Jose Guillen, now Reggie Sanders? What is this... A swap meet for former Diamondbacks?!?!?! :D

Seriously though, Sanders was a big part of the D-backs' 2001 Championship. If he's "on", he's a good guy to have on your roster as long as he stays off the DL.
