November 19, 200322 yr Delete if already posted... Blue Jays acquired LHP Ted Lilly from the Athletics for outfielder Bobby Kielty and a player to be named. Kielty is going to be a quality regular next season, but this is a nice trade for the Jays. Although it can't be completely ruled out, assume that this means that Kelvim Escobar won't return to Toronto. Lilly, who should open up as the No. 2 starter behind Roy Halladay, had more fantasy value in Oakland but will still be a nice pick now. Reed Johnson appears to benefit most from Kielty's departure, but it would be a big mistake for the Jays to pencil him in as a regular. Expect a veteran outfielder to be signed to a one-year deal. The Jays wanted Matt Stairs a year ago and may pursue him again. good trade by the Blue Jays. With this they have solidified their rotation with two great pitchers today. very good trade.
November 19, 200322 yr Billy Beane has been very busy today. Ive always liked Kielty i think he fits their team well. But they did lose Lily so I dont know about that trade. :confused
November 19, 200322 yr I think this is one of those win-win deals. Lilly's a solid starter, but the A's have Mulder, Zito, Hudson, and Harden, so they're not exactly dry there now. Plus, they got nothing from their outfield last year. Kielty is a serious upgrade from some of the garbage they had roaming last year.

November 20, 200322 yr Great deal for Beane. I'm assuming he is obviously looking to greatly improve upon a horrible outfield, which leads to horrible offense. Mark and Bobby are a big step IMO.
November 21, 200322 yr They actually made a good trade. With Holladay.....they needed another solid guy in there rotation. They lacked starting pitchers. IMO they would of been more competitive if they had a good rotation
November 21, 200322 yr didnt keity almost win the ROY? hes awesome. lilly is old isnt he? Lilly is 27. and i dont think Kielty had a chance at ROY
November 21, 200322 yr Who's going to be the A's cather next year? Could they go after Benito Santiago?
November 21, 200322 yr didnt keity almost win the ROY? hes awesome. lilly is old isnt he? no-lily isnt old-hes 27.
November 21, 200322 yr Who's going to be the A's cather next year? Could they go after Benito Santiago? Melhuse, Rose and Brown(future)
November 22, 200322 yr Who's going to be the A's cather next year? Could they go after Benito Santiago? jeremy brown is their catcher of the future. he is slow, he is fat, he gets on base-perfect for the a's system looking at this ted lilly trade, i can understand why this happened. this was on friend (j.p. ricardi) helping out another (beane). im not saying this was only made because theyre friends, but it helps
November 22, 200322 yr Good trade for both clubs as they were trading from positions of plenty (A's starters, Jay's cheap young OFers) to fill holes in their lineups. The Jays replace a departed Escobar with Lilly and the A's try and help their awful OF with Kotsay and now Kielty. I give a slight edge to the Jays in this trade because Lilly was one the best pitchers after the ASB, but I credit Beane because he didn't want to pay the rumored 2 million increase Lilly might recieve through arbitration. Especially when he has other guys in the wings and 3 incredible and one good starter already in place.
