Last year, he went 7-3 with a 4.00 ERA in the 2nd half. Entering the game tonight, he was 1-1 this year with a 3.00 ERA in the 2nd half. Perhaps I just don't see the big deal. He's an awesome pitcher, and I wish we had another 4 just like him. Of course he's going to regress. His first halves the last 2 years have been amazing; it's only normal that he'd regress some. He's still one of the best pitchers in baseball.
August 14, 201015 yr I'm not worried. Even the best pitchers have an off game and I am sure he is a little bit tired, but he did go 8 last time (and then took himself out for being tired). He's got to work through this stretch and get his second wind.
August 14, 201015 yr Like Tommy eluded to, he should have flown ahead of the team tonight. They didn't get to Cincy until 4 AM last night.
August 14, 201015 yr We saw Ubaldo Jimenez suffer a similar stretch a month or so back with a few ropey starts in a row. It is extremely difficult to keep pitching all season long at the rate they both have for the majority of this season.
August 16, 201015 yr He can do better than what happened the other night, although I say he should get a rest in the rotation because he definitely seems exhausted.
August 16, 201015 yr Like miamibaseball said, JJ is running out of gas. JJ hasn't stopped this year because he was in the ASG!! And like others have said, he is human, what else can you expect, he can't strive higher than he is doing because he is the best!! Basically there is no way for him to go but down so he is leveling out a few games--bad for him and bad for what we expect. But certainly I don't think bad enough to skip him in rotation. For one thing who would we put in his place :confused Sad to say we aren't going any place this year. No matter how badly we want it or the team wants it. And as the season gets shorter the less adrenaline flows in our veins to be diehard fans and perfect baseball hitters. I know I'm down in the dumps, and I can't believe JJ and the rest of the team are in the dumps also. I'm just happy he is back from Tommy Johns surgery better than he was before he needed the surgery. :whistle And he is OURS for how long?? I just wish we had about 5 more of him to finish the starting rotation AND throw a few in the bullpen :notworthy
