October 3, 201016 yr Looks like they're up to their old tricks though, they're talking with the 35-year-old RA Dickey about a multi-year deal. Eh. Knuckleballers can throw forever. Look at Moyer.

Not that I haven't said this to you already but: Find 1 player who had his first good season at 35-year-old and then kept it up. Knuckleballer or not. His numbers weren't even that good in the minors. You don't sign someone like that to a multi-year deal. That's how they ended up losing the last game of the season with a pitcher who played his 6th game of the season while getting paid $10M.

October 4, 201016 yr Before this year, Dickey was 22-28 with a 5.43 ERA in 7 Major League seasons Dickey's #'s this year are inflated as well. At home, he allowed 3 HR's and finished with a 1.99 ERA. Away from home, he allowed 10 HR's and finished with a 3.58 ERA. Not that his road #'s are bad, but they make him look a lot less valuable than his overall #'s make him look. He is, in no way, worth a multi-year contract. I hope the Mets give him one, though. :cool

If it was say a 2 year deal at 3-5 mil per, is it really that bad? We're talking about a team that is paying Oliver Perez 36 million dollars to not pitch. Even if you get a Tim Wakefield type role out of him, as a long reliever/5th starter, that's not exactly a crazy contract. As for the Mets future, I think it's hard to deny they have some good buliding blocks. Besides Reyes and Wright there is Pelfrey, Niese, Davis, Pagan, Thole who are all under 30 and look like they could be valuable every day players. The key will be allowing new front office staff to have autonomy. But this is a team that could rebound quickly, it all depends on what happens over the offseason.
