Does anyone recommend any good sports books. Since christmas is coming up soon I didnt know what to ask for so I was thinking of some sports books.

 

Ive read Moneyball and I'm currently reading Bloody Sunday.

 

So any recommendations?

"Perfect I'm Not" - By David Wells, he goes inside the real world of baseball plus you can read how he was hung over when he pitched that Perfect game.

 

Damn I plug that book way too much.

David Wells :thumbdown Not a big fan of this a**hole after the comments he made about the Marlins. Dont think I would want to support him but thnx anyways.

 

Bob Costa sounds intersting. I like his show and like his baseball commentary.

I've read several good baseball books:

 

-Eight Men Out (about the 1919 Black Sox)

 

-Cobb (Ty Cobb's biography, written by Al Stump)

 

I also recommend the biographies of Jackie Robinson, Honus Wagner, and Cy Young.

Ty Cobb sounds interesting. I heard he was one hated son of a b***h that played nasty.

Civil War

 

It is a book about the Army-Navy game. Very insightful, it'll make you respect the rivalry that much more.

i always wanted to read jose canseco book to see what steriod i should use.

What about that McKeon autobiography? Probably would be tough to find.

Lords of the Realm by John Helyar. Great book about the "follies" (my term) of MLB owners.

 

Ball Four by Jim Bouton. Absolutely hilarious.

 

If you can find it anywhere, The Fall of the Roman Umpire by the late Ron Luciano. All about his life as an umpire.

Friday Night Lights....I also have the Life of Rick Reilly Book. Steve Spurrier's autobiography is a good one. Ummm...I'll think of some later....im worn out...eventful evening...and I'm even back early too.

Bob Costas' book is called Fair Ball...great read.

dont forget michael lewis' moneyball

 

the book gets a bad rap because people say its billy beane's way to self promote, but he doesnt really do that in this book about his oakland a's

 

it is a great read and includes stories about bill james, and a's like scott hatteberg and chad bradford. many funny and interesting moments. a great read.

I've read jackie's nine,and thats it.
