There's a load of free agent relievers this season. It would be interesting to see if Beinfest goes with the 'throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks' approach that's hes been using in recent years, even after it pretty much failed last season.

I'm excited to see if this is another Marlins off season or if they'll try and spend some like other teams have done moving into a new ballpark.

Please...Don't do it

Simply Overpaid & not worth it

Rafael Soriano

Wouldn't do it just because they're Type A free agents

Frank Fransisco

Jason Frasor

Grant Balfour

Type A free agent to consider if you want to take a risk

Scott Downs

Probably wouldn't be a terrible idea, but I'm not interested, really...

Jesse Crain

I'd consider it, but he's injury prone

J.J. Putz

Pay him...make him the closer...it makes sense

Joaquin Benoit

I'd take a chance on Putz

Erick, you're crazy if you think Rafael Soriano is overpaid and not worth it. I'd sign him in a heart beat. As for Joaquin Benoit, it depends on his cost. But he would be a great signing at the right price.

I don't think any reliever is worth what he's going to make this offseason. I also don't really see him as a top 5 closer right now, either. He's a very good reliever, but he'll definitely be overpaid. Also, regardless of our respective opinions, it's really irrelevant. Of the guys on the list, he's the most unrealistic option for the Marlins.

True. I could see Joaquin Benoit, though. Pretty old so he won't ask for a longterm contract, and shouldn't be making a a huge amount. He would be a great signing.

Yeah, he's definitely one of the few guys outside the organization who I'd pay, and make closer.

The only thing is, I highly doubt it happens. The Rays have to keep somebody. I'm pretty sure they're going to want to get their picks for their Type A's (Soriano, Balfour). Wheeler's a Type A free agent, too; he's likely gone. Qualls had a bad year, so he's likely gone. Plenty of teams are going to want Randy Choate...he's likely gone.

Their whole bullpen, pretty much, is gone lol. Benoit makes the most sense to keep for them. From a personal standpoint, I don't see why Benoit would want to leave. He's had success there, and the closer's job is pretty much guaranteed to be his, if he stays.

Thus, it's unlikely.

I don't really envision the Marlins going after any of these guys, to be honest. I'm guessing they use a combination of trades + journeymen (Beinfest style) to get the bullpen corrected. Beinfest isn't the type to spend a whole lot on the bullpen. With a $50 million dollar payroll, I can't say I blame him. Bullpen arms are often the most difficult to predict.

I've been making a claim for putz for a while now. I'll be interested to see how much he signs for

Well our bullpen doesn't need a huge over haul. Nunez, Hensley, Badenhop, and sanches would be the start of the bullpen. For the next 3 spots, I'm sure some one from inside the organization, like Jose Ceda for instance, will step up. Our only challenge is finding that closer and a left hander, which are pretty hard. But if we can luck out like we did with Kiko and Meyer, our bullpen should be set. Our next challenge after that is finding a number 2 starter to pair with JJ, if the Marlins don't want to go with Ricky or Anibal.

1. I don't think Leo Nunez will be a Marlin next year. He's trade bait.

2. If Hensley isn't the closer, he'll definitely be considered for the role in Spring Training, at least.

3. I agree with the Ceda part, although it might not necessarily be Ceda, as you inferred.

4. I think the Marlins are content with the rotation, based on Beinfest' comments.

I predict the bullpen will look something like this:

LR - Badenhop

MR - Sanches

MR - 1 of Ceda/Marinez/Cishek ---> Cishek's going to make the team if he does well in ST

MR - Either they re-sign Veras or get one of these non-tender candidates: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/trade-market-for-relievers.html (one of the guys on the list is Manny Delcarmen, and the Marlins have been rumored to be interested in him on multiple occasions in the past. Getting him wouldn't surprise me)

LS - Ohman

LS - another lefty (Beinfest post-year comments make me think he wants more than one lefty in the pen next year)

CL - Hensley (very good year last year, went 7/7 in save opps. in September...will be cheap)

Nothing major as usual, but really not horrible at all, if things pan out as expected.
