November 22, 200322 yr What did the NL Cy Young voters have against Russ Ortiz? Ortiz: 21-7, 3.81 ERA Schmidt: 17-5, 2.34 ERA Ortiz should have received more consideration than he got. I'm not saying he was better than Schmidt, but he had a good year, and led the NL in wins. I mean, for winning 21 games, he only received 9 votes in the Cy Young ballot. Mark Prior, who won about 5 less games than him, received 60.

November 22, 200322 yr Martinez had a better ERA, record, WHIP, and BAA, than Halladay. He also had more Ks. He also played for a team that was in contention all year, and he did this in a major hitters park. And yet Halladay wins Cy Young.

Halladay pitched 79.3 more innings, won 8 more games (in only 7 more starts) and had a stretch where he was flat-out unbeatable. Halladay had 9 complete games and 2 shutouts to Pedro's 2 and 0. Pedro probably wins if he could stay healthy, but he didn't, so he didn't. This is all about having the best season, pitching-wise, in the AL and it's hard for me to make a case for a guy who missed over a month. And, for the record, SkyDome and Fenway Park have the exact same hitting "park factor" of 105.
