you guys need to stop judging this ballplayers. pudge accomplished what every player dreams of, to play in and win a world series. having done this there's nothing left for him in baseball other than money. when you have been playing baseball for as long as pudge has it's not about the love of the game anymore, it is about goals and money. do you think this ballplayers go out to the field with the same hunger they did when they played high school ball? or better yet, little league? at this point in their lives baseball it's more of a burden, it's a job, something they have to do. they still enjoy it, but not with the same little kid crazy passion that they once did. when you catch almost everday and your knees hurt all day and you have to ice them, when you don't see your kids half the year and spend every other night in a different hotel room only 2 things keep you going, money and winning. having already won, money is the only thing that's left. besides, it's not like he came to miami saying that he was going to play for us for the remainning of his carreer, we knew what he was coming to do and that was just fine then, should still be fine now.

This is true. And in every profession it is the same. It is like the three G's that the Spanish used to come to the New World in the name of: Gold, Glory, and God (although most have lost sight of the third).

 

But there is a difference in the sports world and in the baseball world especially. Baseball is the very first sport 9 out of 10 little children are exposed to. It is the game they grow up with, the game they will always hold dear. Anything you do first (don't read that wrong, I didn't mean it that way) becomes truest and dearest in your heart. You never forget your first in something, no matter how things have changed. And that is why baseball shapes all of our lives, because it is our first true 'love' if you will.

 

Why do I say this? Because players like Pudge have to realize they still have to answer to three G's. Glory was acheived this year. I don't know how winning can get old, but nonetheless he can say "been there done that". Gold has been acheived over time, but unfortunately it is more of a driving force than ever in those who have achieved Glory recently. But baseball players still have to answer to God. Who is that 'God' of baseball? No, I do not speak of the baseball gods. I speak of the little 8 year old boy. The one that will find out in school December 8th that Pudge is leaving, the Marlins couldn't sign him. The one that will go running to papi because his favorite catcher has left and now he has no inspiration to play catcher anymore. And there will be more than one of these.

 

God is also the teenagers and young adults who follow the game like they couldn't live without it. While I sincerely doubt someone would commit suicide over Pudge leaving, how are you going to explain to them, a major lifeline of the franchise, why you didn't come back to play for a team that if kept together could have very well been back at it again?

 

God also is in the form of los viejitos. The ones that will hate you forever if you abandon the team they have loved since Day 1 but rarely get to see in person because they have nary a way of getting to the games. You will be cursed and hated amongst those, maybe even some from your same background, because of abandoning a team for money.

 

God is every baseball fan. But the "adults" will understand the decision. I would understand the decision, does that make it right? No. And what to the youngest and the oldest, where money means nothing if it gets in the way of loyalty? I value loyalty over dollar signs. Whether you have played one year or ten with the franchise. That franchise gave you a ring. How about sticking around for a second?

the ESPN Radio announcer could have seen Rodriguez on his short sheet and though it was Pudge while it was ARod. Those sheets have small type and are in short hand form by someone else than the reader.

How about sticking around for a second? beautiful juanky, except that the 'god' pudge always had an inclination to, the one he worshiped is in texas, not miami. i know this year he's spent in miami has been magical and it would be fairy tale like if he stays, but so would be if goes back to texas, the franchise in which he became a big leaguer and has played all but one year of his profesional carreer. when the front office in texas decided not to bring him back it was if the priest that brought him close to "god" had kicked him out of church, and all faith was lost or forced out by a shady religion.

ramp, the odds of vlad in miami are improving quickly. If Pudge walks, we could save money on that position, trade Enc and/or Redman and get some young talent for them and save some money along with the expected new TV deal money, we could pull this off.

Your own perception is always key, because in the end I trust my opinion over others because I know everything that is involved in forming my opinion.
