November 27, 200322 yr Wow, you mean we can't afford Vlad? This is a very sudden shock I must say. :lol
November 27, 200322 yr Only two states that have MLB teams don't have income or sports payroll taxes: Florida and Texas.
November 27, 200322 yr Only two states that have MLB teams don't have income or sports payroll taxes: Florida and Texas. Why do you think A-Rod is IN Texas?
November 27, 200322 yr it was for reference, i believe someone asked if California had a tax in this thread so I put up the info.
November 27, 200322 yr Only two states that have MLB teams don't have income or sports payroll taxes: Florida and Texas. Why do you think A-Rod is IN Texas? Because they offered him the richest contract in MLB even with or without the state income tax he still was going to sign that contract.
November 27, 200322 yr Ramp I told you the Angels appear to be the team to beat, well....According to prosportsdaily.com the Angels today have offered Vlad 4 yrs Guaranteed 62.75 Mil. Also it good to see Mike Berardino get the jump on everybody with the Lowell/Castillo thing. DeJean is name that was mention alot during the trading deadline, could be a name to remember :whistle ...also Redman is the man that WILL be gone with or without Pudge resigning. Like I say the hot rumor that was going around at the GM meetings was Redman being package with Encarnacion to try and get more. As far as Looper I've heard both he's staying and he's going...you'll know "IF" his gone if Urbina starts to get calls from the fish. Why is it good to see Berardino get a jump? For one thing, it remains to be seen if he knows what he's talking about since he's pretty much shut out of the Marlins camp. His MLB "sources" have already proven to be unreliable. He did nothing but trash the Marlins almost all of last season. Except for LeBatard he's absolutely the most negative, and damaging reporter covering the Marlins. He appears to a have a personal vendetta or something. He thinks Oakland is the only organization who has any idea how to run an organization ever since he read "Moneyball". It became his bible. He's a jerk, and I hope fans don't forget what a jerk he really is. see somebody agree w/ me. u cant be a marlins insider and like beradino. theres no way that could havppen.

Except for LeBatard he's absolutely the most negative, and damaging reporter covering the Marlins.? He appears to a have a personal vendetta or something." What really caught my eye was the Herald's Clark Spenser's obvious rewrite of Berardino's column for today's Miami Herald. Yes Berardino carries a grudge towards the Marlins (and from this person's perspective its totally justifiable) you can't put him in the same sentence as LeBetard, Spenser and Miller. For sheer quantity of Marlins-hating reporting no one holds a candle to Clark Spenser. Day in, day out, for three years Spenser has poisoned this market against the Fish, and Miller, well Jeff Miller is simply the most rabid Marlins-hater alive. Who else would comment that a sign that read "Loria=MVP" held up by a cheering fan the night we won the wildcard and conclude that MVP stood for "Most Vile Parasite" even as Loria saved baseball in South Florida. Yes Mike B. has his issues, yes he's been wrong frequently, much too often for my taste, but you can't put him the same league as the Marlin-hating troika at the Herald. Not even close. AGREE with everything you said Marlins 2003, Another guy that doesn't get talk about in a positive way is Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post. He's very knowledgeable and informative about baseball and the Marlins. good to see sombody agere w. me. cuz u cant be a baseball insider and like beradino.

The only one I got was Pubes. Despite my post, I still think Vlad could be coming here. I think the market is being tested/set. Vlad is going to make his decision, and it wont be totally based on money. He is not going to California, I am sorry. Too far away from what he feels is his home. For that, he would just go to Baltimore and get the money Anaheim is offering. But I feel he REALLY wants to come here - and Loria may pull another 'special money' deal for him. You cant say it is out of the realm of possibility because how many of us here thought Pudge was coming here? In fact, there were really no indications that he was - no public discussions and we appeared to not have the money. Sound familiar? Granted, indications point to Vlad not coming here, but I cant help but feel otherwise - and I have tried to dismiss this for the reasons the nay-sayers are: no money, no public talks/rumors. I think right now, Florida could be #1 on the list and Vlad's agent is trying to get other suitors just to have options. Sounds like me and my grad school choices...
November 28, 200322 yr willis#1: jonnylons is one of the biggest "vlad believers" on this board. i'm surprised you havent added him to your list. he mentions in like every other post that we can get him. there is a 0% chance of affording vlad. it's nothing like getting pudge for one season and deferring that salary over four. vlad is asking for an eight year contract. even if he only gets 4 or 5, it's still 100% impossible to afford a $17 million man merely with "special money". you would have to sacrifice more. i challenge all of these "vlad believers" to post a serious breakdown of our payroll and show how we can accommodate him. i haven't seen anyone do it yet, so i'll continue stating that it's impossible unless you gut the entire team. the question isn't "does vlad want to come here?" but rather "can we afford him?"
November 28, 200322 yr i thought i did a decent job of it but i dont know what we would do with Conine if we got Vlad... i mean, $3mil on the bench aint good
November 28, 200322 yr Choi.vs.Conine-spring training, its that simple. If we get an All Star or Veteran OF via trade or FA. Then Choi is expected to spent 2004 on AAA or Conine would be traded. Conine won't be platooning or riding the pine for 3 mill. We aren't the Yankees.
