Former number 1 overall pick arrested

Recommended Posts

Matt Bush, a former No. 1 overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft, was arrested Thursday night in Charlotte County on multiple serious charges related to a crash at around 5 p.m.

Bush was trying to rebound from alcoholism and other problems in the Rays organization.

He is being held without bond at the Charlotte County Jail. Bush is scheduled to make his first appearance Saturday morning.

Bush, a minor league pitcher with the Rays, was charged with DUI with serious injuries, fleeing the scene with serious injuries, driving with a suspended or revoked license and DUI with property damage after the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Bush was driving a 2011 Dodge SUV south on U.S. 41/State Road 45 approaching Murdock Circle when he hit the back of a motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject the driver.

Bush fled the scene and was later located traveling south on Toledo Blade Boulevard in North Port, the FHP said. Officers from several agencies made a traffic stop, and Bush was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail. He was not injured, according to the FHP report.

This is the the guy the Padres wasted the # 1 pick on in the 2004 draft as a short stop, he got arrested shortly after signing and I believe there was footage on this site from an arrest where he was crying. He was trying to make it as a pitcher.
