November 29, 200322 yr The deal Mike Lowell has supposedly agreed to with the Marlins is now reported to be worth $32 million-$34 million over four years. An announcement probably won't come until next week. The deal includes an escape clause related to the construction of a new Marlins ballpark, but the amount is guaranteed regardless. The Cubs have jumped into the bidding for Luis Castillo, offering a deal similar to the three-year, $15.5 million contract the Marlins have proposed. The Marlins, Cubs and Mets all now appear to be offering Castillo a three-year deal with a vesting option for a fourth year. It might be that the team that guarantees Castillo the fourth year could land him. not good (the second one) c/o Rotoworld
November 29, 200322 yr not good (the second one :thumbdown ) they got everybody that they have. Q: Why did the cubs need dlee they got randell simon.
November 29, 200322 yr not good (the second one :thumbdown ) they got everybody that they have. Q: Why did the cubs need dlee they got randell simon. Uhhh lets see Randall Simon is only good for hitting Sausages in Milwaukee....
November 29, 200322 yr I was just about to post that Sun-Sentinel article. 11/29 Article Castillo doesn't seem to know what he wants. He changed agents like 5 times and now seems to be backing out of a deal that he was close to signing. If i'm the Marlins, i'm starting to look elsewhere for a 2nd baseman. I'd push harder to re-sign Pudge, and should that fail, i'd start to look for another bat. I like Castillo, but what more does he want? The Marlins seem to have a very fair offer. I'd give him a deadline to either take or leave the offer and then move on. With the market the way it is, 2nd base should be easy to fill. Alomar, Walker, Grudzielanek, Ronnie Belliard, Eric Young, Fernando Vina, and Chris Stynes are all free agents, not to mention those who will be non-tendered. With the exception of perhaps Walker, most are significantly cheaper than Luis as well. Good news on Lowell though. Looks like a good deal, and Mike really deserves it. As far as the last paragraph about how the Marlins may regret dealing Lee if Castillo leaves, I disagree. To me, the Marlins got good value for Lee, and saved $7 million. Even if they lose Luis, that money could still be used to sign Pudge or another bat, or improve the pen.
November 29, 200322 yr Uhhh lets see Randall Simon is only good for hitting Sausages in Milwaukee.... lol haha
November 29, 200322 yr Author Uhhh lets see Randall Simon is only good for hitting Sausages in Milwaukee.... He's actually a very good player
November 29, 200322 yr Uhhh lets see Randall Simon is only good for hitting Sausages in Milwaukee.... He's actually a very good player I know he is, hes a great fastball power hitter guy. As was exemplified by Chad Fox in the NLCS game 4.
November 29, 200322 yr Author As was exemplified by Chad Fox in the NLCS game 4. :o dont remind me....of the day my heart stopped that was the game you and I went to, or the game after it. I forget
November 29, 200322 yr As was exemplified by Chad Fox in the NLCS game 4. :o dont remind me....of the day my heart stopped And then started again when we got that run back. And Stopped when we lost the game.
November 29, 200322 yr I know randell simon is a good player but why do they need dlee they have randell simon dosen't strike out a 100 times he has some pop he makes contact and i don't think he has a big contract. Also he can make good plays like dlee. They don't need dlee cuz he's fast. They don't need him at all. But we didn't because of his contract besides we have conine. But if he went to la or baltimore we could of gotten a better deal. I'm not saying bienfest didn't make a good move i think we got a player but we could of gotten a better deal out of la or baltimore.
November 29, 200322 yr I'm really happy about resigning Lowell, obivously a big part to keeping the nucleus. :thumbup I understand that Castillo wants to wait until he gets all the offers on the table but come on man, dont make it seem like you're gonna sign and then wait AGAIN. make your mind up :thumbdown
November 29, 200322 yr arguable. I mean this team is based around speed and we did seem to play fine without Lowell in September but...Lowell is like the heart of the team and he's such a big bat in our lineup. I hope we resign them both
November 29, 200322 yr Author The Marlins should be spending there money elsewhere. elsewhere besides Lowell and Castillo...? and (where, what, who) is elsewhere?
November 29, 200322 yr I hope you don't mean "spending the money elsewhere" as in trying to resign Pudge because as I'm sure everyone knows, Castillo and Lowell resigned are WAY more important than Pudge.
November 29, 200322 yr The Marlins should be spending there money elsewhere. elsewhere besides Lowell and Castillo...? and (where, what, who) is elsewhere? Elsewhere besides Lowell. Like on Pudge or a good catcher. Sign Javy if you can. You don't really need to spend $8 mil a year on Lowell when if he leaves the lineup wouldn't take that big of a hit.
November 29, 200322 yr sign Javy after one of the biggest CONTRACT SEASONS ever? i doubt he puts up numbers close to that next year
November 29, 200322 yr I doubt it too but it doesn't seem like anyone wants to spend money on him, so he probably really won't have a contract over $10 mil a year.
November 29, 200322 yr If the Cubs sign Castillo, I will be VERY PISSED!!!!!!!!! Maybe they are just entering the bid to drive his price up, so we are forced to sign him at a higher price?
November 29, 200322 yr btw, If I was the Beinfest/Loria I would step up and put a no-trade clause with the current deal to Castillo. This guy is a home grown talent that has played for us since the begining, he deserves a no trade. He may be just thinking, that at first sign of no Stadium deal or losing season and no fans (we know the market down here), he may be traded. So why not go for the highest bidder? If no no-trade clause, I have a feeling we WILL have to match the highest bid.
