2012 Hurricane Season thread

Featured Replies

Its been crazy here. We've gotten about 6 inches so far. Been raining all day but didn't start getting bad until around 11.

Some areas are going to be handing out sandbags up to 10 tonight.

Now they're saying Debby is moving so slow that tropical conditions might stick around through Wednesday.

This is news sooo.....

No, "hurricane season" is not news. It's been every year. Now, if a hurricane wiped out half of Tallahassee, then yeah, that'd be news.

Just saying, in years past, I remember this thread being in the "outfield" forum. Wasn't saying anything against you posting it here.

How is following a tropical system NOT news?

Dude, stop being so defensive. He's just saying that in the past, this thread was in another forum.

Not defensive, confusion. There need to be fonts for certain expressions.

Back to the topic at hand....

If it wasn't for the satellite view you'd never know there was a tropical storm out there right now.

I was at Islands and Universal this weekend and it was pretty annoying. It didn't stop raining on Sunday and it rained for half the day on Monday. Nothing way too bad, though. Sunday night was the worst, and that was basically just a windy thunderstorm.

I live in Orlando, yeah, Sunday night was pretty crazy.

Flash flooding and stuff...

Here's one out of Clearwater for the baseball peeps:

As long as it doesn't mess up my chance of getting a Stanton bobblehead on Wednesday, I'm all good.

If it hits Tampa as a cat 1, Tampa is going to drown.

Debby did serious damage with many neighborhoods turning into lakes and major roads having to be shut down. As one local meteorologist said, "there is no such thing as just a cat 1 hurricane when it comes to Tampa."

Well the storm was just lots of rain and wind and not much else, no real damage.

I feel bad for New Orleans, seems like it's comin' right at 'em.

Although, if it loses power quickly and just turns into a tropical storm soon after landfall and goes a considerable distance north, I think it could do more good than bad in the form of rainfall considering the record breaking droughts the area has been experiencing. That storm was reaching 250-300 miles wide at times, could deliver alot of needed rainfall.

Invest 97L out there has been quite slow moving with chance of tropical formation, and all of the models are pretty iffy on it (again I know a small bit about them but not enough to make a conclusion on this). Looks like Jeanne, almost.
