Escobar Traded to Rays
why is anyone happy about this? ew. s****y return agreed. Y'all are underselling escobar's talent and team friendly contract. I fully expect this to turn into a huge steal for TB. 5M for a solid SS and all you give up is a 23 year old who had a .750 OPS in AA ball... Marlins just wanted to get rid of the 5M. BUT THEY SAID THEY'RE REINVESTING IT. REINVEST-ING IT!!!!!!!!!!!REINVEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to make my stance clear that I'm fine with us trading Escobar, especially if we reinvest it, but he's a very valuable player at a prime position. His defense alone makes him worth 5M. He's young, has potential, and is team controlled for the next two years. Just saying, if the Rays were intersted, I would've loved to see a trade more along the lines of Escobar/Marisnick/Eovaldi for Hellickson. And have Hellickson and Turner be the foundation of the rotation for years to come with Fernandez joining in. But that's just me.. ya know. Having a plan and willing to lock up young established players. But that's too much to ask for as a Marlins fan.

Peter Bourjos
I'd be very Ok giving McLouth 2 years at 5-6M to be our 4th OF and play some LF or CF when injury or rest is needed or if one of them get in a slump. And then next year when Yelich takes Pierres spot, he'd continue the same role and offer some veteran leadership etc. Oh wait, we have Gorkys. Forget I said anything.
- Im no GM, but I believe the Marlins should trade Stanton if...

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
This is all just for show. Put the damn trade through already so that Samson can go back on his word from last week and trade Nolasco already. And if the league or Selig want to punish the Marlins, figure out a way to punish them without punishing the fans. We've been through enough, taking away something cool like the all-star game would be lame.

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
The trade getting rejected is about the worst possible thing that could happen. We'd get all the negative reactions and backlash from FAs and other players, we would have several unhappy players and that would end in one of two ways. Them being shipped individually throughout the season, causing our rebuilding phase to go along more slowly. Or we continue to overpay drastically for players underperforming and Loria does nothing and we sit around being at best a .500 club. Nothing positive would come from this trade getting rejected. The damage is done, best thing now is to move on and hope they get it right this time and sign the right guys.

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
Funny how the marlins didnt want to get rid of Reyes....but they did. And Toronto insisted on us taking the cancer in Escobar.....and we took him. Yunel Escobar is a career .766 OPS SS owed 5M. He had an awful year last year, true. But, we took him mainly to take SOME money off of the Jays books, and also because we fully intend on moving him. I'd be surprised if Escobar and Nolasco are on our roster come opening day.

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
And there's no way we trade Nolasco without eating salary or taking back a bad contract, albeit less bad. No one will say, "here Marlins, take an ok whatever prospect for that enticing 11M SP you got there that got you a 4.5ERA in a pitchers park in the NL. Can't wait to see what he does for us."
-
Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
Anyone who thinks giving an average 3.5-4.0 ERA pitcher 20M a year for another 3 years just because he's 'consistent' and gets 200 innings like Buehrle is a good idea... come on. Same thing with Reyes and Bell. My main problem is that all those awful contracts were given to begin with and no repercussions or consequences took place. FO is still in one piece while everyone but them has suffered for their decisions. Players getting flown around like it's a video game, community getting duped, fans buying stuff and now disheartened. That's what bothers me the most. This is what we should've done to begin with but everyone in the marlins FO was too busy smelling their own farts they created an awful overpaid team that still had holes. And as much as I like the moves from a baseball standpoint (and hate it from every other stand point), now it's going to be very hard to sign certain players without giving them no trade clauses or at a good price. No one is going to want to come to Miami now and give us a discount or be more inclined to sign here, much of the opposite.

I feel like Roddy Piper did in "They Live". Who has their trusty alien viewing ray-bans? LoMo should've been this for Halloween. I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... And I'm all out of bubblegum. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp_K8prLfso

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
Well I mean, they have to sign SOMEONE. But I mean, I'm not making any predictions at all whether we roll out a team next year with a 25M or 50M payroll. I mean, if we trade Nolasco, fielding a team around 25M is a possibility. I'm saying in terms of pure baseball, I'm ok with the trade. We have a few very good young pieces. Then we're getting these Jay prospects. The ones we got from the Tigers and Eovaldi. There's potential here. But there's no way to defend what Loria has done to the community.

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
I'm sorta in the minority here, not freaking out about the trade. I always felt the contracts we gave Reyes and Buehrle were awful and would prevent us from making other moves. I think we got one foot stuck in quicksand and instead of just sitting there and slowly getting sucked in for the next couple of years, we completely blew up the team and cleared space. Between Yelich, Fernandez, Turner, Eovaldi, Cishek, Stanton, along with the TOR players we got and some FA's, we could be a very good team in 2014-2015. Who the hell knows? (probably not but I'm hoping ) I'm much more upset about the way this all happened. How this franchise has been tarnished further, all the people that bought memorabilia or jerseys that won't be used, people that bought season tickets, all the schools and art programs that got shut down because the county gave the money to the stadium instead. This stadium created so many issues and debt and problems, and now this is what happens? In terms of pure baseball, I'm actually kind of OK with this, I like young hungry players and building from the bottom instead of trying to buy a pennant. But, everything else... ruined. So bad... Awful really.

Marlins name Tino Martinez hitting coach
The Tino hiring came from the top perhaps Loria? Not Redmond's. Ah sh*t, he's Loria's guy? f***, our guys are gonna hit like .210 this year combined. We hit .244 this year which was a franchise low.

Ozzie, majority of coaches dismissed
What a joke... add the 7.5M that we still have to pay for absolutely nothing in return to the millions we paid the diamondbacks to take Heath Bell off our hands. We're spending like crazy baby!! 12.5M for manager and reliever to play elsewhere. And people still think this club is afraid to spend?! pssshhhhh

Should Marlins look at A-Rod?
Yea, I'm ok with my scenario above only if we part with Heath Bell and some organizational depth. No one of any real value like an Ozuna or Cox or especially someone like Yelich like mentioned earlier which was awful. If he keeps us relevant, helps us win, and draws more fans/spectators to the stadium or possibly helps getting us more money somehow, which in return would hopefully make us spend more in other FA periods, then I'm all for it. If we have to give real talent and this team becomes even more of a circus then... well...

Should Marlins look at A-Rod?
Honestly, based on our glaring hole at 3rd base and the need to draw fans to the stadium and the potential that he shocks some of us and has a decent year, I'd gladly take a deal where they paid let's say, 80M which translates to 16M a season and we ship over Heath Bell. $28 million next year - 16M - 9M (f/ Heath Bell) = 3M $23 million in 2014 - 16M - 9M (f/ Heath Bell) = -2M (actually come out ahead) $22 million in 2015 - 16M = 6M $21 million in 2016 - 16M = 5M $20 million in 2017 - 16M = 4M So all in all, we'd fill a need, get rid of Bell, draw some extra attendance, and potentially have a solid bat, and later towards his career he'd be a platoon/PH type guy. I don't think that looks bad at all considering how much some random dicks make. But who knows if we'd have to give someone else of value or if they wouldn't want to pay that much. I think they have to at least pay 75-80M to even get the ball rolling. Depends what talent they can pry away from us, not that we have much at the farm to begin with.

Should Marlins look at A-Rod?
I was actually thinking the same thing, about A-Rod potentially coming here to finish his career and giving us solid play at 3B until Cox or someone else was developed or traded for. And then I saw his contract. Absolutely not, under any circumstances. And in regards to the lineup, I think offensively it'd be much better if we signed a solid bat for LF, put Ruggiano in CF, Boni at 2nd and Solano at 3rd. Because it's alot easier/cheaper to sign a good LF bat than 3B or CF. But we'll see what happens.

Ughhh.. Dan Carpenter...
Dan Carpenter - Converted 30 of 48 attempts on FGs over 40 yards over the past 3 years. A whopping 62.5%. 6 of 14 when you consider only 50+ yarders. That's 43%. And he has a strong leg, he's just missing them which is worse. Because when you have a strong leg and make them in warm ups, the coach thinks you can hit them, but then... ya don't.

Ughhh.. Dan Carpenter...
The Dolphins address? 7997 Mediocrity Lane. They've been there so long that they are on the condo association board. Ya but with this defense and Tannehill. I feel like we're only a few pieces away from being a very good team. I just hope we resign Randy Starks. Dunno about Jake Long, he might ask for a fortune. On the fence on that one. If we resign both of them, sign/draft a top WR, and a few more upgrades and I can see us at 10-6 or 11-5. Dan Carpenter making his damn kicks would help.

Ughhh.. Dan Carpenter...
We have a pretty easy upcoming schedule. Which makes losing both of those OT games hurt even more. But still, going into the bye at 3-3 would feel good, and then have two weeks to prepare for the mess that are the Jets. :wee I'm optimistic. And Tannehill has surpassed all my expectations. Just hope he keeps developing and getting better. His INT to TD ratio is very misleading.

Official 2012 Postseason Thread
Looking forward to Kuroda getting destroyed by all the lefties in the O's lineup tonight. Meanwhile the Nats are losing 6-0 to the Cards... They must be so happy to make their first playoff series in forever only to completely mishandle the Strasburg situation and now, barring some miraculous comeback, will be down 2-1 to the wild card cardinals.

Speculation on The Ticket This Morning
They gave Brantly a pretty good look this year. There's alot of room for improvement on his defense and we have yet to see if he can adjust to pitchers adjusting to him. I have to wonder if they keep Buck around to help with his development and in case the kid falters. well Buck's under contract for another year, what else are they going to do with him? Basically. They're going to platoon them and hopefully give Brantly more at bats overall, something around 350-400. Unless he struggles which they'll turn to Buck and his solid defense. Anything is better than having Hayes out there.
