November 20, 201213 yr Obviously the return would have to be enormous for the Marlins to consider this.... But what if Texas offered Profar and Olt? Thoughts?
November 20, 201213 yr No. I think "LoMo + @" package could be realistic than Stanton for Olt and more.
November 20, 201213 yr I hate to say this but we might as well trade Stanton while he still has tremendous value. What happens if in 2013 he either: A. has an injury-filled season and misses a ton of time B. we get no good bats to protect him and his numbers fall wayyy down. Then how the heck are we going to get anything good for him in the future? The FO completely blew this team up. Might as well not dilly dally on the inevitability of losing Stanton.
November 20, 201213 yr A. has an injury-filled season and misses a ton of time B. we get no good bats to protect him and his numbers fall wayyy down. Well, he's already had A. People still want him. As for B, he'll still be wanted. His home run numbers will probably go down [like Cabrera in 06 going from 33, 33 in 04 and 05 to 26 in 06] but his average, OBP will go up a bit. However, chances are, even getting pitched around, he may still hit 30-35 homers. Man is that strong. His value can only go up, unless he tears his ACL in March, of course.
November 20, 201213 yr Profar and Olt? We might need to throw in Anderson Perez to sweeten the deal. And 4.1M
November 20, 201213 yr BTW, Nov 30th is last date to tender the contract. but now we have listed only 33 players on 40-man roster. How can we fill 7 spots? With Garbage or preparing for massive pickup at Rule-5 draft?
November 20, 201213 yr 6 crap spots and 1 rule-5 I say. Then again, that's the 40-man roster. The 25 man could possibly be set already. Possibly. In which case, we just have to make 7 crap spots.

Livan Hernandez, Gary Sheffield, Jeff Conine, Andre Dawson, Pudge, D-Train, and Piazza. Livan is game ready, Gary loves the marlins and wants to play Conine said he could hit better then buck today Dawson is jacked, he can hit behind stanton Pudge couldn't let go Dtrain is still young Piazza can stand to play 5 more games before he's traded to the mets.
November 20, 201213 yr The should sign Manny Ramirez, seriously. He was never given a fair chance in Oakland and he might still be able to play and cheap. Sign Livan too- and offer DTrain a ST invite and put him on the 40 man. In all seriousness- all three might pan out.
November 20, 201213 yr Stanton for Profar, Olt, Martin Perez, and Leonys Martin would be pretty fair.
November 20, 201213 yr Stanton for Profar, Olt, Martin Perez, and Leonys Martin would be pretty fair. Throw in Adrian Beltre and make Olt a second baseman until Beltre's contract runs out.
November 20, 201213 yr The fact that we are even talking about trading Stanton is just f***ing pathetic. Only the marlins could manage to take it to this.
November 20, 201213 yr Trade him. He's not signing here long term anyway. I would rather see Giancarlo playing for a contender.

You know we are not here just to watch players get traded away when they get to their highest trade value. That's going nowhere.

You know we are not here just to watch players get traded away when they get to their highest trade value. That's going nowhere. You are right, but the probability of the Marlins fielding winning teams over the next several years is extremely low. If some of these prospects do pan out in a few years and we have a competitive team, there's no way Stanton will sign long term with us after we lose club control.
November 20, 201213 yr The fact that we are even talking about trading Stanton is just f***ing pathetic. Only the marlins could manage to take it to this. Hey, none of us want Stanton gone. Especially me. In all honestly, if the Marlins trade him, I may not be a fan no longer. However, this forum is completely hypothetical.
November 20, 201213 yr I think the best argument for trading him now, in addition to that we're going to suck this year no matter, is the same reason that we should sign him long-term this offseason: this is the best year to get a significant discount. If we wait until next offseason, for example, teams will offer us less because they will expect less added value from Stanton, given that at that point he'll likely demand something much closer to what he'd get going year-to-year.
November 21, 201213 yr Agreed he should have been extended awhile ago. But we're gonna trade him. The slave has spoken out against all powerful boss man Loria. You know what happens next, lOok at the history. Hell the club hasn't even had the decency to approach him regarding his feelings.
November 21, 201213 yr I hope he gets traded this offseason because they're gonna trade him, anyway. Really though, I wish he'd stay.
