November 21, 201213 yr Stanton for Trout? DISCUSS! Why would the Angels do that? That's about as close as you're going to get as far as equal value for either of those two players... Erick, what kind of haul would Seattle bring? I thought someone else nailed it when they said more than one team would probably have to get involved for the Marlins to get back the kind of prospects Stanton would require.
November 21, 201213 yr If Stanton is dealt, I'm hoping it's to Seattle. I don't know who we would want from Seattle but if he has to be traded, I would be very happy for Seattle. I love the team even though I don't follow them and hate the Ichiro era is over.i would have no bad feelings about pulling for Stanton on the Mariners

I'd hate to have to root for teams I hate. Heck, send him to Tampa and I'll probably drive up there monthly.
November 21, 201213 yr Can we change the title to--- Im no Marlins Fan, but I believe the Marlins should trade Stanton if...
November 21, 201213 yr If Stanton is dealt, I'm hoping it's to Seattle. I would want Pittsburgh or Arizona. PItching, pitching pitching. Seattle's young pitching is great, as well. But yeah, it would have to be a loaded farm system if we're making a trade.

November 22, 201213 yr I can't even believe that this subject is even up for debate. Only the Marlins would make their fans feel motivated to even broach a subject like this.
November 22, 201213 yr Texas has a plethora of prospects. Profar, Olt is a start and you go from there.
November 22, 201213 yr Author http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/21/passan-the-marlins-should-do-a-herschel-walker-trade-with-giancarlo-stanton/ others agree with me as well. I would be the worst GM considering I called the big trade.
November 24, 201213 yr David Schoenfield of ESPN just posted the following proposed (by him) trade: Miami Marlins trade OF Giancarlo Stanton and OF/1B Logan Morrison to the Tampa Bay Rays for OF Desmond Jennings, RHP Wade Davis, RHP Chris Archer, LHP Enny Romero and OF Drew Vettleson Why should the Marlins stop now? Stanton was an emotional wreck after half of his teammates were sent to the Blue Jays, so the Marlins face a small crisis with their star right fielder: (A) How will he produce playing in front of 827 fans a night? (B) What are the odds he’ll ever sign a long-term deal with Miami? (Umm ... 1 percent? 2 percent? Zero percent?) So you may as well trade him now. By the time the Marlins are contenders again, Stanton will be ready for free agency. Luckily, they have a perfect trade partner in the same state. Admin Beinfest and Andrew Friedman probably could work this one out on a golf course in Orlando, followed by drinks at Benihana. The Marlins send Stanton and thorn-in-the-side Morrison for more minimum-wage young players and prospects. Davis and Archer immediately step into the club’s rotation, while Jennings becomes the much-needed starting center fielder. As for the Rays, they get that monster bat for the middle of the order in Stanton, and Morrison moves back to his natural position of first base. In the absence of Jennings and departed free agent B.J. Upton, Sam Fuld can slide over to center, with Stanton and Matt Joyce manning the corners. The rotation remains well-stocked with David Price, Matt Moore, James Shields, Jeremy Hellickson, Alex Cobb and Jeff Niemann, and the lineup now looks something like this: SS Ben Zobrist LF Matt Joyce 3B Evan Longoria RF Giancarlo Stanton 1B Logan Morrison DH Brandon Guyer/free agent 2B Ryan Roberts/Elliot Johnson CF Sam Fuld C Jose Molina
November 24, 201213 yr He's worried about Stanton performing in front of 827 people a night, so he proposes a trade to Tampa. Brilliant.
November 24, 201213 yr I came on to see if anyone had posted that trade idea from Schoenfield....it's not an awful trade and it would make the Rays a beast of a team to deal with. it's a trade they can easily pull off because they just have such ridiculous pitching depth. part of me wouldn't mind that deal because I feel Stanton will be gone anyway at some point, so they might as well send him here so i can see him = )
November 24, 201213 yr Why is everyone so certain that Stanton is a goner when neither he nor the Marlins have discussed a contract extension yet? I mean, how can you so readily assume that there is 0 percent chance he signs long term? All of this trade talk seems kind of silly to me until the Marlins actually make Stanton a competitive offer for a contract extension and he refuses. So I'd wait until there's a standstill in the negotiations and then try to move him. Otherwise, the trade talk is premature.

November 24, 201213 yr Yeah this is getting a little nuts. It is totally understandable that Stanton is upset but lets see how he is when the season gets going, i don't think he's a pouter. And why is Logan "thorn in the side" in every article anymore?

I also like how he's an "emotional wreck" because of one tweet. Lol. Anyway, that trade sucks. If we're giving up a generational talent and throwing in Logan Morrison, it should look more like: -Matt Moore (Upside: Ace, Downside: Mid-rotation type starter) -Desmond Jennings (can fill CF as stated) -Jeremy Hellickson or Alex Cobb (projectable, middle of the rotation type arm) -Wade Davis or Chris Archer (Upside: Middle of the rotation arm, Downside: High upside bullpen arm) -Hak Ju-Lee (middle infield depth) -One or two throw-in prospects that will likely amount to nothing If the Marlins trade Stanton for Schoenfield's proposed crap, I'm done. The return for Cabrera might've ultimately been garbage but we got more for Cabrera than for the proposed garbage deal Schoenfield is proposing. Stanton's current value > Cabrera's value when traded and Lomo is currently a lot more valuable than throw-in Dontrelle Willis at the time. That deal absolutely sucks. Morrison could easily become the second most valuable player in the deal. We should not trade Stanton AND Lomo for Jennings (absolutely sucked offensively last year), Davis (has starter upside but been a failure as a starter), Archer (most scouting reports would actually consider him a reliever in the future, not a starter), and two guys currently in A ball who might just amount to nothing. Garbage. Stanton is currently the second most valuable player in the game behind Mike Trout. Period. At worst, behind Trout and Harper. He's basically worth a team's entire farm system at this point.
November 24, 201213 yr I agree erick. He was way undervalueing Stanton. Any trade involing Stanton and rays should start with Matt Moore

Jennings is acceptable, the others I don't see a need for. We have a ton of SP prospects. Find a Ace. In free agency. Keep Stanton, let him walk if it comes to it.
November 24, 201213 yr When you're trading a player like Stanton, the only thing that matters is talent/value, not positions. Pitching is still needed because pitching is always needed, anyway. Some of the starters we got back in these trades will either be relievers or busts. You never have enough pitching. Spending a ton of money on pitching usually isn't a wise investment. Especially for aces since they get ridiculous amounts. Pitching is usually developed. Aces rarely ever make it to free agency, anyway. This year, for example, there is no ace.

I think folks are jumping to conclusions based on Peter Gammons interpretation of Stanton's feelings. All the other stories are derivatives of this one "feeling". And you think they'd know better, as Gammons has swooped in like a vulture on any and every decent player the Marlins had. Sorry, not buying his interpretation. Sorry Gammons but don't get yourself over-heated dreaming about Stanton in Red Sox colors. Let's just see how this turns out before we assume he's traded.

November 26, 201213 yr Author I really think that the return for Stanton would be a cant miss. Although, I thought the same when the Marlins traded Miggy....
November 26, 201213 yr A bird in hand is worth 7 in bush. A Marlin in a hand is worth 7 from Detroit.
