Official "All-Star" Fans Choice Game Thread (2012)

Why? I just don't get it. It sucks he's not playing, but according to the rules Stanton was selected. That's good enough for me when Infante and Cishek are far from all-star worthy.

I'd be mad at the players and Marlins front office for not having a Marlins all-star. Not Selig or LaRussa.

I'm really baffled as to why people are so butthurt by this, but whatever.

According to the rules, a player has to be selected and has to REPRESENT his team in the ASG. Whether that's by playing or just being there. Stanton couldn't do either.

Butthurt that Dan Uggla was selected or Butthurt because we will have nobody playing as our rep for the All-Star game?

Show me something official in writing that indicates that the Marlins are being under-represented.

Stanton's selection for the team is in the records (he's no considered a 1 time all-star); that certainly sounds like representation to me.

Sorry, that wasn't addressed to you.

Not playing, being at the stadium, being at the festivities, being introduced as an All-Star to the crowd and the world right now, and being several hundred miles away from KC. Yeah, good representation.

I'm surprised Mark Buehrle hasn't been mentioned as a possibility. If you think about it, he's way more deserving than guys like Ruggiano and Cishek. No one has mentioned Buehrle though, not even the organization. Samson is an idiot.

You really care that much about all-star game fanfare?

All MLB needs to do is give the opportunity for a player from every team to be there. Stanton has a damn good reason for not being there, but that's just the way it is and MLB should have no further obligation.

I wish they would get rid of the "every team needs a rep" mandate personally if they are going to make the game "count."

I hadn't said it on the board, but I had been thinking for the last week that Buehrle would be my pick if the Marlins were allowed to send someone else.

I have no idea why Infante's or Cishek's names keep popping up.

Probably because guys like Freddy Sanchez in 2007 get selected.

Yeah, that was poorly worded. I meant to say that the American League is junk, and the National League is the only true league. After all, we still follow tradition with the pitcher hitting, and we are more pitching oriented than power oriented (as baseball was meant to be)
