So why didn't Ruggiano start again?

Because he's been sliding, especially against RHP.

He has a .963 OPS vs righties. And is 100x better defensively than dobbs.

Yes, he;s better defensively, but he's sliding offensively.

You go with what you can that's better offensively to start and replace him defensively late.

Holly, we miss you. :(

Would it be a postponement or finish? Doesn't matter to me either way, just wondering.

Completed game.

I need to learn the ruling on all that.

If the game was tied after the 5th inning, it'd be continued tomorrow. If it was before it was made official in the 5th, it'd start over as a DH tomorrow. If it's after the 5th and one team is leading, it's over.

I do remember a couple years ago, it was Yankees @ Orioles, rain delay was top of the 8th inning and Orioles were up by 1, they continued it later on in the year.

Not sure if it was because the Yankees had someone on base or what, but I do remember they finished it, even though there was a team leading.

It's not as if Greg Dobbs is a good hitter. Definitely not good enough to outweigh how terrible he is defensively, especially when you have better options.

He has 3x more doubles and homeruns than dobbs in 50 less ABs...

Well if the run comes in the top half of the inning, then the home team has to be given a chance to tie it in the bottom half so they must've entered that eighth inning with it tied.

Top of the 8th - Orioles were UP by 1 going into it. Was not tied.

As specified.

Well since there's a rain delay, yesterday was my birthday. I wasn't going to mention it but I'm bored. And we're losing, so there you go.

Dobbs may not be a better hitter, but Ruggiano has struggled horribly against righties as of late. He had a stretch of 13 ABs with 8 Ks.

Erick - you're not wrong, but still.

I think there's a rule that the game can be suspended if an inning is in progress and the visiting team scores runs in the top half to take the lead (which the Marlins haven't done).

So many rules.

Is there a way to buy the baseball rule book?

I'm not 100% sure about this. If the Marlins had scored 5 runs in the top of the 8th before the delay, I think it might have been suspended and finished tomorrow afternoon.

I think the 5 runs would be wiped out and it'd roll back to a 5-1 Cubs win.

With our luck, yeah.

I wonder if I should go shower-- except I don't want to miss what'd left of the game.
