7/18 Marlins @ Cubs - 8:05 pm ET

I believe the aforementioned Orioles game was suspended for that very same reason. The Yankees scored a bunch of runs to take the lead right before the delay. The rule demands that the Orioles get their at bats in the same inning, so MLB suspended the game.

I swear the Yanks were down a run going into the delay, but they had a runner on base, so maybe if the tying run is at the plate or on base or something, maybe that's a difference.

Or because it's the Yankees.

I was actually at the game where they "finished" it a month later. My recollection was that it was the Yankees scoring a bunch of runs in the top half, which gave them the lead. They didn't call it because they wanted to be fair to the Orioles by giving them a chance to respond in the bottom half.

Didn't they score the runs during the make-up, though?

Not the go ahead runs. They might have scored more runs afterwards, but those wouldn't matter.

I think I know less about the rain delay rules now than I did yesterday.

It confused the hell out me at first, but after thinking on it for awhile it made sense. It just doesn't happen very often because there's a bunch of conditions that need to be met for the game to be suspended.

As far as I know, that Orioles-Yankees game is the only time they suspended a rained out game where it hasn't been a tie.

I just got to new york so i couldn't watch the game. Checked on my phone and it was 1-1 bottom 6. Then I check again and see that josh crumbled.

Then I also read the tweets about how many we've left on base. Oh look!! Hanley struck out with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out.

Only the marlins can consistently get a lead off triple and not score. Happens to all teams but with marlins it becomes routine.

I just got to new york

Hop on the F-train and head to Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn. Have a square slice there and thank me later.

I will perhaps check this out good sir.

I think

Win the series?
