Hanley may miss some games.

To recap, here's Ozzie on Hanley on Friday:

Guillen said he hopes Ramirez can return Saturday

Guillen suggested that the hand might’ve been fine if Ramirez had taken his medication like he was supposed to have done.

“Hopefully the doctor will find exactly what he needs and make sure baby Hanley takes (it). I will every night [say] ‘open your mouth’ and put it in his mouth,’’ Guillen, said laughing. “How do you forget to take a pill that the doctor (tells you) to take?’’

Guillen said the hand did not bother Ramirez during the Cubs series. “It happened last night,’’ he said. “I thought something bit him. But it was from the infection. It was bad.’’

Baby Hanley?

:lol

Ozzie at his finest, not to be outdone by Ozzie on Hanley as reported on Saturday:

“Hanley’s not day-to-day, Guillen said. “It’s more like two days-by-two days. His hand is a little bit better [saturday], but just a little bit. I don’t see that much difference between [Friday and Saturday].

Guillen said it would be a “miracle if Ramirez returned for Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates, and said a return during the team’s upcoming six-game homestand is “optimistic.

“I don’t know [when he’ll be back], Guillen said. “I know he still can’t grab a bat.

Guillen said Friday he heard the infection was caused by Ramirez not properly taking his medication for the original injury.

Ramirez said Saturday he forgot to take it on only one day.

Ozzie "heard" he wasn't taking his medication? Aren't they talking?

In any case, the guy signed a $70 million contract, but now isn't smart enough or can't be bothered enough to take prescribed antibiotics for a self-inflicted injury on the prescribed schedule?

When his manager rightfully makes a public fool of him for his idiotic fan-punching that has now resulted in him hurting the team (some may disagree about that) he says what? "I only screwed up one day." Not "This was all really stupid and I'll never do it again."

And baby Hanley might actually not be lying, infections can be VERY aggressive and sudden.

But, that possibility notwithstanding, he's screwed up three times. Once by punching a fan. Once by not taking his meds. Once by not just taking full responsibility for his ongoing idiocy. Will he compound it further? Wouldn't surprise me.

He's 28 freaking years old. When is he going to stop acting like an emotionally immature (fan punching,) irresponsible (failing to follow doctor's directions,) excuse-making (it was only one day) 13 year-old?

Loria and Beinfest have to be asking themselves this very question as they consider what to do before the non-waiver trade deadline.

As far as I'm concerned, they can't package this guy up and ship him elsewhere soon enough. I'm sick of his juvenile antics and tired of watching him choke about 80% of the time when it counts.

Something about this stinks to high hell. He cut the hand more than 10 days ago. I believe that it only took 2 or 3 stitches. that thing should have been well healed by now or at the very least to the point beyond infection. It wouldnt suprise me to find out if something else wasnt going on behind the scenes. it just doesn't add up to me

I don't know about the conspiracy part of that, but......Forgot his meds for one day? C'mon. I get cuts every day, some worthy of stitches that I don't get, or meds that I don't take. It's a hazard of my trade. Keep the cut clean and covered for a couple days and all is fine. Has me wondering what the heck he is doing with that hand. Soap and water, maybe a little antiseptic spray, does wonders. Bet the trainers even have some of that stuff.

So, is anecdotal evidence now some sort of medical proof?

I'm not interested in supporting Hanley's juvenile position on this, but your blanket proposition of how infection works is mistaken. Remember Henson, the Muppet guy?

The bacterial infection that killed Jim Henson was an especially aggressive type of pneumonia known as streptococcus pneumonia group A. Dr. David Gelmont, director of the medical intensive care unit at New York Hospital, who treated Mr. Henson, described the infection as ''abrupt and potentially overwhelming.''

http://www.nytimes.c...erwhelming.html

Henson (he was 53) was dead 20 hours after he was admitted. And, he's not unusual when it comes to aggressive infections, there are many thousands of examples of absolutely horrible outcomes, usually death, sometimes amputation, almost always totally unexpected and within hours. We don't know what sort of bacteria Hanley's hand was exposed to that caused this infection. Which is probably relatively minor. But is at least major enough to put him out of commission for about a week.

But, that's not the point.

Regardless of the seriousness of Hanley's self-inflicted hand infection, the fact remains that he's screwed up three times.

Once by punching a fan.

Once by not taking his meds.

Once by making excuses instead of taking full responsibility for his two prior actions.

All of those things were totally under his control, yet he chose the path of an emotionally immature (fan punching,) irresponsible (failing to follow doctor's directions,) excuse-making (it was only one day) 13 year-old.

As I said, anecdotes aren't the point. Hanley's behavior is what is at issue.

If you notice I said this before it was widely known that he didnt take his medication. I thought maybe there was some stuff going on behind the scenes but alas, Hanley found new and improved ways to disapoint his fans and fans of the team in general.......ugh

If the bird posted here I bet some would think it was a bitch too! See what I did there?

Did you just call me a bitch?

Not really sure what I was doing here........I looked over my post and it clearly didnt make any sense what I was doing. All I know is that I was trying to be sarcastic in nature....my appologies if it sounded like i was name slinging. not my intentions

Catfight!

Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said it would be "optimistic" to think Hanley Ramirez (hand) could return during the team's upcoming six-game homestand.

"I don’t know [when he’ll be back]," Guillen said. "I know he still can’t grab a bat. They have to go by the doctors and trainers, and see how he feels. The infection seems like it’s pretty strong. We’ve got to play [it] by ear. If you want to, call it day-to-day, but to me it’s ‘check every two days.’ Maybe we can have him pinch run, but that’s it." It doesn't appear at this point that the Marlins consider the disabled list a possibility, but it will obviously have to be considered if Hanley doesn't see an improvement over the next few days.

Getting caught by surprise by the return of an infection is not at all uncommon. As for 'what he is doing' - he is putting is hands into gloves and handling wooden tools covered with sticky organic compounds.
