Baby Marlins Playoffs

Jordan Conley - had a weird, very short arm delivery, topped out at 86, but was effective in getting a lot of quick outs.

I sat next to his dad at last nights game, seems like a nice family.

Hammerheads washed out tonight, every game the Hammerheads have had scheduled in Lakeland this year its rained....

Beinfest and Hill were there tonight, made small talk with them!

Nick Wittgren, RP: (S, 3) 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 1 K

Interesting stat line for Heaney there.

7 hits and 1 walk against 9 Ks ... wow. Least he was throwing strikes! Sucks he didn't make it through 5, though.

The 9 K's is still an awesome encouraging stat... Looking forward to watching him figure things out... I wonder if he gave up some hits falling behind in the count and he felt he had to get one over?

Hammerheads lose a tough one 5-3, tonight to set up a winner take all championship game tomorrow night. Jupiter got on the board first with two runs in the 3rd on a RBI double by Ozuna and a single by Ryan Fisher. Adam Conley cruised through the first four innings striking out 7, but ran into trouble in the fifth as he hit one, walked another, allowed back to back to hits before walking another to get chased from the game. Dane Stone came in and pitched two scoreless innings. The Hammerheads took the lead again in as Realmuto and Alfredo Lopez had back to back singles, Realmuto had advanced to scoring position after stealing 2nd and was driven in by Dallas Poulk on a sac fly. The Hammerheads undoing came in the bottom of the 8th as Raudel Lazo gave up a bunt single and two walks to load the bases, he was relieved by Brady who gave up a sac fly and then a double to chase him from the game. Beinfest and Hill were in attendence tonight, looks like either Morey or Neal as the starter for tomorrow.

Jupiter plays sloppy baseball and loses the series by allowing 2 runs in the 8th... Guess they are playing the Marlins way after all

Sucks.

In a close game the Hammerheads come up on the short end losing the FSL championship 2-0. Jupiter out hit the Flying Tigers in this duel of starting pitchers, but the game came down to the relievers. Robert Morey started for the Hammerheads throwing seven, striking out eight and allowing one hit. Rett Varner came in to start the 8th allowed a single to Hernan Perez (who made his MLB debut earlier this summer), the next batter sacrificed him to second, before he allowed a walk to Marcus Lemon. The game turned on a double steal as J.T. Realmuto's throw sailed into left allowing Perez to score. Lemon was driven in with two outs to give the Flying Tigers an insurance run. Lakeland reliever Melvin Mercedes who hit 99 mph a couple of times, earned the win but not before allowing a double to Noah Perio with two outs in the 9th, sadly Realmuto grounded out to end the season. Several of the players with the Hammerheads team have now been to the playoffs for the last four years, starting with the GCL Marlins in 2009, then Jamestown and last season with Greensboro, I look forward to their progression and see at least 8-10 with the ability to play in the Majors.

South Atlantic League Championship Series (Low A): Greensboro was off (Series tied 1-1)

Its win or go home time for Greensboro as the Grasshoppers got walloped by Aheville 9-0 last night.

Josh Hodges takes the hill. Austin Barnes was probably the only highlight lst night as he tallied two of the Hoppers four hits.
