April 20, 200323 yr pitcher under 25 in Major League Baseball is........... I dont care if he gave up a run in the ninth to end his second shutout attempt of the year. His stuff, his mechanics, everything...its just simply that good. I would almost argue that he is the best pitcher in baseball under 30, but I am not ready to make that arguement quite yet. And oh yeah...he had 3 years of collegiate experience. Coicidence?
April 20, 200323 yr Mark Prior is awesome.. Brilliant Observation :shifty Personally, I think he's great but IMO he is over-hyped. Their's tons of good young pitchers in The League and who know's who we will be talking about in 5 years. I think he will be an all-star but not this mega phenom everyone is talking about.
April 20, 200323 yr Find me one flaw in his pitching. It's not that but how many times do we hear about can't miss prospects who never live up to expectations. I never said he's not going to be great but not The Phenom. Remember Todd Van Poppel? There is alway's these prospects coming and going and you know it. J.D. Drew was called The Next Mickey Mantle Look at Ben Greive
April 20, 200323 yr Author Has Mark Prior done anything to show that he will not be the best pitcher in this game?
April 20, 200323 yr He has shown me that he will be one of The Best Pitchers Not the best. I'd much rather have Hudson or Zito on my team. In fact if I was allowed to take one pitcher out of The Cubs system it would be Wood. WHo has completly recovered from TJ
April 20, 200323 yr Author Prior will be better than Wood..... But I would take either on my team. Hudson and Zito have more experiece in the big leagues....give Prior a year to learn the bigs adn look out.
May 10, 200323 yr *Caugh* Brett Myers *Caugh* 1 run in 6 innings today and... Going into today had 2.08 ERA. Prior maybe the best young gun but remember Myers owned him in his first start.
September 2, 200322 yr Comparing Mark Prior to Todd Van Poppel might be one of the single dumbest things I've ever read. Just for the record. TVP never did anything close to what Prior is doing right now. Prior's past the prospect stage at this point. And Wood is WAY too inconsistent. He's more-hyped, few more strikeouts, Cubs version of Beckett right now. His numbers (beyond K) aren't THAT great. He's like 12-12 isn't he? (And yes, I am just bitter because he's on my fantasy squad...both Wood and Beckett are actually)
September 3, 200322 yr Umm, I declared Prior the best pitcher in the history of major league baseball last August.
September 3, 200322 yr Prior has always been good since coming up. He has great mechanics and a huge upper body which helps him throw harder. He has a good Breaking ball and change up too. He will be around for a long time. I would want to see willis and prior in about 10 years from now.
September 3, 200322 yr Prior has better command of his pitches than any other 22 year old in the history of baseball.
September 3, 200322 yr Author you may have said it in august... but i was the first on this board to say it. whether he is the best in the history of this game...i dont know. right now though....you can make a very strong case for him being the best in baseball TODAY.
September 3, 200322 yr you may have said it in august... but i was the first on this board to say it. whether he is the best in the history of this game...i dont know. right now though....you can make a very strong case for him being the best in baseball TODAY. When did you say it on this board?
September 3, 200322 yr It's not that but how many times do we hear about can't miss prospects who never live up to expectations. I never said he's not going to be great but not The Phenom. Remember Todd Van Poppel? There is alway's these prospects coming and going and you know it. J.D. Drew was called The Next Mickey Mantle Look at Ben Greive Todd Van Poppel never did anything in the majors, and J.D. Drew suffers from injuries, not lack of talent. Nobody thought Ben Grieve was going to be anything near the level that Mark Prior or Albert Pujols are projected to. Also, his career is nowhere near over. The guy averaged a .360 OBP and a .480 SLG from the time he was 22 to the time he was 24 in full seasons. That takes some talent. He's looking like a bust right now, but he could still be a very good player. He's not even 28 yet.
September 3, 200322 yr Wait...Prior is the best pitchers in the majors today? Gimme a break. He is a superb pitcher who has a strong chance to be a front of the rotation starter for the Cubs for years to come, provided he stays injury free. But in terms of this season, I wouldn't put him ahead of five or six ML pitchers. Players I would take over Prior right now: Schilling, Pedro, Javier Vasquez, Halladay, Zito, Hudson, and Mulder. Add age as a factor and Prior moves pretty close to the top. I still need to see more performance out of him; I certainly would like to see far more from him before I would make the blanket statements and predictions about him that are being made here.
September 3, 200322 yr The Keyword is "One" of them Fish Fry. He is along the top pitchers with the list you gave.
September 3, 200322 yr Hey people, as of right now there is no current pitcher who is hotter, and I guarantee he'll be seen as the best in the game in 2 more seasons when he wins his 3rd straight Cy Young.
September 3, 200322 yr No. Josh Beckett Will be the Best SP in MLB History for the rest of his carear. (I am a Beckett Fan)
