One Rays blog says that Loria's actions could effect all of FL

Featured Replies

I don't remember Stanton demanding a trade.

Even though the Rays have a decidedly different organizational philosophy, specifically a desire to compete and win, that may not be enough.

Ok right, because the Marlins philosophy is to try and lose as many games as possible. We want to compete and win, we just go about it differently.

Anyway, as far as the article goes -- I don't think this will have any effect on the Rays' quest for a stadium. It is just as difficult for them to get one today as it was a few months ago. I hope they do get one.

Admin, I think the author's point was that yes, every team wants to win, but with the latest firesale by the Marlins, it gives the fans the perception of "here's your winning team, aaaaaannnnd it's gone." you see what I mean? And I think it will have an effect on my team. With the Marlins FO doing what it did, it now leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the public sector and the Marlins are now the most recent example of when public funding for a stadium goes wrong.

I do think that this debacle will negatively affect the Rays; however, that article was just awfully-written. Wow, that was a painful read; no flow, no structure, just a big mess.

No, the ballpark is still there, all the money went into it. Wouldn't say the funding went wrong.

Loria didn't buy the Statue of David with the city's money.

I seem to remember Loria promises to field a competitive team in the stadium however, and now he's not. Also, can't forget http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/18029886/marlins-face-outrage-over-stadium-funding-report]this.[/url]

Spending a lot of money doesn't guarantee a competitive team. See 2012.

I have no problem talking about the Rays here, but I really wish it wouldn't feel like you are simply shilling your blog or the blog of someone you know.

I rarely read this blog, nor do I really know the people that run it. So no, it's not a plug. Just an article I thought you would find interesting. For better or worse.

He's saying it has that feel, not necessarily that it's what you're doing.

I still remember that one time a couple years ago where you posted a "random blog entry" and then you said, "oh yeah, I WROTE IT!" lol.

But it was a good-faith attempt. And I of all people know that big money doesn't equal good team. My point being, that the firesale gives the impression that he's stopped trying.

:p I should do that again. :p

I broke down why the rays are prevented from getting a ballpark in your last thread, it was consise and to the point.

If a fan of another team knows your teams ballpark situation, don't you think you should too.

The Rays will not get a new ballpark approved until well after 2018 or until the mayor of St Pete is gone.

What the marlins did has no effect on those plans, nor will it impede and future plans.

The Rays are screwed because they signed what looks like a 40 year lease. The fact that ST Pete wants to hold them to it is a Legal/ Contract Problem, not a Marlins problem.

Haha its not like the Rays spend tons of money. The only reason they were even able to resign Longoria is because he keeps signing way below his market value which is extremely rare.

They wont be able to sign any of their pitchers. Especially David Price.

I will admit that being somewhat competitive in the AL East is impressive but you also seem to forget all the years where the Rays were one of the worst teams in baseball.

In the end, come October, the Rays and the Marlins often find themselves in the same place.

Also two rings.

Proves he realized the current roster wouldn't work and is trying something different.
