Marlins outfielder Alfredo Silverio underwent his second Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the 2013 season.

 

The outfielder hadn't played a game this year for the Marlins, as he was placed on the 60-day DL with a sprained right elbow before the season. He was the team's top pick in the Rule 5 Draft this past December after hitting .306 with 16 home runs and 85 RBI with the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate in 2011. He missed the entire 2012 season after sustaining injuries in a car crash.

The latest setback for Silverio places his future with the Marlins in doubt. It's possible the Marlins will return Silverio to the Dodgers.

I wondered how long it would be before that was said. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think the only issue is just how much OF depth this team has. He might block someone that deserves to be on the big league club... for a "maybe he'll work out" situation.
